Default Welp, here we go again!

For those of you following along on This thread you will know that after getting the GT running, I drove it about 30km when the low belt light came on. No weird noises, so I took out the 17mm wrench and gave it bit of a tighten. Started it up and drove about 100 meters before a loud bang and the engine stopped.

So it looks like I am going to need some intake and exhaust valves. If any one has some for an 90 GT I would be in need of some. Prefer close to here but I am going to be waiting for head gaskets anyway.

Send me a pm here or on RW. I am posting this over there as well.

Thanks in advance. Just got a tease of what was to come, now I am starting all over again. Crap....

I just purchased a set of 2R heads. I'd sell them to you for $1150 complete plus shipping. You'd need to get them machined to be sure they are flat but if it helps, I'd sell them to you.

It's in the other thread, but the nut backed off the oil pump gear. Although I am sure the wave lock washer was there, and I KNOW I torqued it down, it still backed off. I used locktite blue this time when I strung the old timing belt to do the leak down test.

I just fitted a new OP gear when doing the tbelt refresh (all gears, porkensioner, gates belt, water pump etc) and there is a washer but its not a wave type. Its thicker than normal and the nut was torqued to 30 ft lbs with blue loctite.

Brad up in Fort Mac had exact same issue.....carnage pics on OC.

Malcolm's too quick!

Another view of that washer, from a 90 GT, appropriately enough:

On the 83 Euro it has the fat washer and a wave washer.

If your fitting the steel gear in place of the old aluminum gear,
then the 1mm spacer is to be removed,
this spacer fits behind the aluminum gear.

Sorry to hear this,
I usually stick a 1/2 in extension into the gear hole to hold it ,
and then tighten the nut

The thick washer was there for sure. The washer on my 82 spare engine (steel gear) had the flat washer and a wave lock washer. This is why I assumed it was supposed to be there. Well this only confirms I did install everything correctly. No locktite, though. I will never forget to add that to it from here on in. Lesson learned (but not yet paid for, lol)
