Mine has a sunroof, 5 speed, no rear air. Not listed, but will have to sell due to health issues.

Let's see.

U.S. S4's without a sunroof:
1987: 30
1988: 15
1989: 5
1990: 1
1994: 1

U.S. S4's without a sunroof, 5-speed:
1987: 16
1988: 7
1989: 3
1990: 1
1994: 1

U.S. S4's without a sunroof, 5 speed, no rear air:
1987: 11
1988: 3
1989:1
1990: 0
1994: 0

So you've got 15 cars to pick from. FWIW, the '89 is not a GT.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for the graphic representation of what the pool of contenders looks like.

I didn't think my search would be easy and it sure doesn't look like it.

Cheers,

No sunroof, those are rare. I looked for a year before buying mine but I was not able able to get what I wanted (no sunroof, 5-speed, sport suspension, LSD and sport seats) so I ended up with a sunroof....

Best place to find those ones are in Europe or Japan.

Do you not want the sunroof because you are tall and need the extra head room? Or just less maintenance and a cleaner look?

My car is an 87 S4 with that exact spec. My friends 88 also.

As mentioned they are not as rare in Europe.

Less weight on top of the car helps to lower CG and more headroom for a helmet.

At over 6' tall, I need extra room without a helmet, even with lack of hair...

No need to gloat about it!

I personally felt the bloated 928s (AT, sunroofs, dual A/C, big puffy electric seats, etc.) that were brought into the US market helped to kill the car from being considered as a dual purpose GT by more sporting enthusiasts.

Wish they brought in more of the pared down ones, although our family also loves the bloated ones too.

Cheers,

Yup. I'd be curious as to how many 911's from 85-95 came with sport seats and 5-speed (Tiptronic Auto was introduced in 1990) compared to non-sport and tiptronic.

Constantine there is an '88 5 speed Track/DE car w/ roll cage, extra wheels, Recaro seats and more listed in this months (March) Panorama.
It's been said the best way to do one is to buy one already converted and make it your own.

If you find this Holy Grail, don't let us know, you might get sacrificed by others in search of it.

J/K :-) Good luck with you search, if you find it, we'll all be envious!

Constantine
The later S4+ cars end up being about 100lbs heavier than the early cars....its quite easy to find a 78-80 OB with no rub strips and no sunroof if you are looking to make a track car.....my 79 weighs about 2615lbs on an empty tank.....
