Dome light problem

The interior lights above the rear view mirror, overhead & rear hatch are KNOWN for grounding out on the car shell. Make sure all these connections are not in contact with any metal. The interior lights are connected via the interior light delay relay to all the door pins and the rear hatch lock... If any of your door pins or interior lights are inop then it may effect the rear hatch release because the rear hatch light is wired to the rear hatch release mechanism. Once you figure out the correct wiring for the interior lights and the rear hatch release still doesnt work (you've checked all the fuses/relays) it may be because the interior light delay relay is inop... its very frustrating. Check it by jumpering the relay.

I'll be clearer - No - unless it blows the fuse.
But the pin switches must work to turn the dome lights on in door switched mode and allow the hatch release to function. This actually has nothing to do the with the dome lights - they can all be removed and the hatch release will work normally if this functionality exists. Of course this is one of the most common issues causing the dome lights to not work in this mode - but those failures are rarely due to the fixture though.

Alan, "Of course this is one of the most common issues causing the dome lights to not work in this mode - but those failures are rarely due to the fixture though".
Do you mean the door pins are the most common issue? I was trying to be clear(er), but its been a while since I went through my system to figure this out. Hope I wasnt too far off the mark in my description. The interior light delay relay was part of my problem along with a door pin, the rear hatch pin (under the hatch mechanism) & a grounding interior light (over the rearview mirror). All easy fixes, but can be a pain to figure out when you have more than one issue contributing to a problem. Of course the relay was the last thing I checked...
Fortunately, you and a couple of other guys helped me out

Sorry, deleted original post when I edited by mistake.
My question was can a defective dome light effect the hatch circuits. I have a receipt for a rebuild of the latch and motor but it's not working.

Dome light functionality stand alone has no impact. But if they blow the fuse the hatch opener initiation won't work, Similarly the pin switches (and if equipped the interior light delay relay) must work correctly to cause grounding of the switched interior light supply to allow hatch opener initiation.
The dome lights don't have to be wired correctly or work properly or have bulbs installed or even be installed - as long as they don't blow the fuse.
