Default What tires would you use on these wheels?

Hi Guys, I finally found a set of 18" wheels that I love for my 86.5. Now I have to figure out which tires would be best to run.

Here are the wheels:

They are 18 X 8 ET55 on all 4. I was hopeing to get a 265 on the rear but I don't think that is going to fit on an 8" rim. So, should I just go with 245s all around?

I really want to salvage as much of the good ride as I can which means I am not in love with low profile tires... Your suggestions here would be welcome also.

Cheers,

Hankook Ventus V12's, they ride and grip great. Had Bridgestone runflats on it and it rode like it had solid suspension. V12's are what a lot of the Ferrari guys are running.

I second the V12 suggestion. I recently went from 16s to 18s with V12s and the ride quality is so much better. Nice and quiet too. I had expected it to be harsher, but it was opposite.

I'd go with the Hankook's like the others have recommended. Price vs performance makes them a great value. I have them (rears @ 295/30-19 - It's a widebody car). The 265s would probably be better if your rims were 8.5 - 9.0" wide. At 8", 245s will probably be a good compromise. I think the "tallest" sidewall you could probably go would be 40-series, or else your speedometer might be off, plus it could throw off your final gearing. I'm sure people who really know tires/rims will reply to you, so please take everything that I've said with a grain of salt and listen to those who know a heck of a lot about it than me.

Another vote for the V12's.

They grip well when warmed up.
They are a little slippery when cold (which is fun!).
They are the quietest tire I have ever run on the 928.
They are cheap.

Frank, you know I love my Hancook V12's...

I'm running the 265's on the 9" wheel. They fit very nicely. Not sure if they would /____\ too much on 8.5".

Hold on a minute here... No, I have taken notice of the continental DW's. I think the tread pattern looks pretty aggressive. Looks like they would do well in both wet and dry situations. I know the v12's would also guys. Stephen, I didn't know you had the v12s for some reason. I definately like the way your car rides. However, since my Goodyears didn't sell, I am not sure I will be able to afford them. We shall see.

Thanks guys for your suggestions,

245 or maybe max 255 for 8" wide wheels. Hankook's are fine othervise except ones I have seen have been heavy compared to more expensive rubber like Michelin's.

Thanks guys for your suggestions,
The DW`s work very well in the dry and wet. A couple things to watch. They have a very low wear rating(280) and the backs will go away quickly ! Also not recommended for low outside temps below 40.
If you want an all season type tire with a much better wear rating (540) and it get cold where you live. Go with the DWS tire.

Both have lots of gripsion and are very quiet.

Well, Since i seem to be extremely hard on rear tires, maybe i should look at something with a higher wear rating. i semm to be bad about leaving behind perfectly good rubber on our fine city streets. Something i hoped i would grow out of by 58. Oh well, maybe by 60. I am certainly less likely to max the speedo as often as I used to so i guess that is one sign of maturity??? Or maybe lack of oppurtunity.

The plan is to try for the v12s if I can raise a little more money but if not I may go with the Falkins.

Thanks for your input guys.

I like the polished rims on your car now ! They would look great on my 911 Targa. How is everything going with your car ?

If you leave a lot of rubber on the road go with Toyo R888,
When they are really sticky, its hard to slip them, less spinning = more life...

If you look at the tire specs (Ventus V12) on tirerack you have to get down to a 245 before you find a tire speced to fit on an 8 inch rim. 245/40-18 rim spec 8"-9.5", 255/(35 or 40)-18 specs 8.5"-10". Fitting 245s on the front with 55mm offset may be a chalenge as well.
