I laughed Jim. Very good IMO. Not much else rhymes with Beachy and Peachy.
Minerva blue is a great color, i almost bought a minerva 28 from a man named Ed who lived in VA and was retiring to Hawaii. Anyone know him?
Nice guy.
It was posted by my suggestion to the Registry.
He sold it there.
Needed injectors and some other things so I passed but was very nice looking.
Going to do the jambs and all Tony?
I wouldn't worry about paint thickness at all. Your painter will D A sand the car before he re paints anyway. It will be fine. GREAT COLOR CHOICE

Pretty sure that pic above is the '78 i almost bought, Bluemaxx w/ VA plate.
Remember it needed a fuel injector and the odometer wasn't working.
Kind of wish i bought it. Beautiful.
Who ended up buying it? I'd like to hear about it.

I looked at the thread, never in person Stan.
You are correct it's got a little paint on there and in a perfect world it is best to take everything off and start fresh but if it's DA sanded well by his painter it will be just fine.
I stay on top of the trade to a degree and as we discussed; I used to pay my bills restoring european classics for Bill Anderson's Bimmerworks in Wilmington De and then for myself as a younger man.
Bill since sold the biz to a man in West Chester Pa, still called Bimmerworks.
We used to do a lot of old rusty beemers and i did one 356 myself while there.
We did not use that much paint. We etch primed then color, no clear usually. Paint looks great when thin you're right.
The re-sale paint job refers to thick paint jobs.
I cannot believe myself the layer upon coat upon layer restoration shops put over bare metal restorations these days.
They start with 2 coats of etching then 2 sometimes 3 coats of high build, block sanding between coats, then another heavy sealer coat before they even put down 2-3 coats of color and 2-4 clear.
I counted the coats of material being sprayed on a bare metal outlaw 356 at 11-13 coats of material by the final clear coat. These were heavy coats too. And a very accomplished paint shop (PPG paint system) The car had a lot of dings and dents.. It looks great. Show winner.
In Tony's case, I believe is should be sanded very well and will be just fine
and look great. It's Tony's money let's just sit back and enjoy the show!
Now can you tell me who bought Bluemaxx?

Was sitting at a stop light a few weeks back when an off duty sheriff rolled into the back of the GTS. He must of been going a whole 2 mph when he touched. Left a few scratches in the bumper cover and that was it. Brought the car over to VLZ Elite Concepts to await an estimate. Went back and forth with his insurance co stating that the rear bumper cover would need to come off for a proper paint job, etc, etc. Was quite surprised at what was awarded. VLZ quoted me to fix the rear bumper cover and a few things that needed attention. Then asked what it would cost to do a complete, paint apart job in another color. For not much more $ Just Beachy will be wearing her new color at the upcoming Spring Fling. T
Sorry to rain on your parade and be the voice of reason, but you know deep down there is no chance this will be done. I had body work and paint (but not even a full repaint...let alone a color change!) done on my '95 and it took 5 MONHTS!
I hope I'm wrong, but that just hardly ever happens!

GTS has already been taken apart, filled in all the little imperfections and sanded. Paint has been ordered and will hit the shop on Mon or Tues.T

Tony called me a few years ago asking about this GTS, low mile, out of Washington. We talked a bit about getting it ready for the road and Tony wanted to **** it all up with paint.
Imagine my reaction to a low mile GTS. Owner wanting to repaint it. I refused.
Now we are on the 3rd repaint and I have to smile because he is painting again. LMAO. Odd how things work. I swear, I'll be supercharging this thing soon.

I took my 28 apart , windshield, quarter windows, handles, took the interior out, and painted in less than 7 weeks i think, not even working hard in my spare time. I didn't know the model i never did a 928 so that is also a factor of time.
Ended up respraying it, still in under 7 weeks. Tony's guys know the car and are pros..
It can be done by his painters in 1 week if they could dedicate the time to it.
Ever watch Pimp my Ride!
My pelican thread: Painting my '83S if interested,
Thanks Stan for all the help BTW on my painting a new Porsche model to me!
