Surprised you guys haven't caught light of this one.... Has a story here on renny...and smoking price.. If I were in the market... would definitely be looking at this one..black/black no rub strip 5sp... just under 99k miles, with updated rods, engine gone through etc..asking $24K...

Why would you even say that? That is great car for the money. If that one is still available in a couple months I will have to fly out and bring it home.

Looks like the guy did some very good work on the engine.

I'm going to make the early prediction that this car ends up in Austin, TX.

I read the discussion thread also from a-z (that is a great thread by the way, including all the good links to other threads in it !), and it reads like all is done as it should have been when you rebuild a 1993 GTS engine (with at least proper 2R rods, etc.).

Besides: from that thread it can also be found that it has done almost +9K miles after the engine rebuild since spring 2010 (not a lot but enough), IMHO any (let alone serious) rebuild engine problems woud have shown up rather soon after the rebuild.

Given current prices for decent GTS's in Europe let alone 5-speeds with less than 100K miles, I wish I was living in the U.S.A. for that reason (and then I have not even moaned about the around +30% import tax you have to pay for importing any second hand into Finland - oh wait: I just did ). At this price it is almost a give away!

No affiliation, just saying/writing...

Very aware of this car being on the local market.

Seems it's the OP who is late to the party.

I made contact. I also made an offer. We are going to try to speak. Is there anyone that could help with the transaction or that can vouch for the seller?

The owner was very nice and I communicated with him, a fair amount. Really seemed to understand the process and what was required. Also seemed to want to get all the proper pieces to do his repair.

I'm always concerned when I see something for sale, after a big repair, especially since the owner was "fixing" up his all time "dream car". Especially concerned when the price is this low....this is a fantastic price. My ONLY concern would be about the powder coating and if all the media got removed from the intake manifold. Failure to do this, turns these engines into absolute scrap metal. A spark plug removal and leakdown should tell if there was a "potential problem" regarding that process.

Other than that disaster happening, everything else is moot. Even if there is 5K worth of other small crap wrong (typical for any 928, it seems)....who cares? It's still a steal!

I wish there was someone in San Diego that knew these cars well enough to tell you everything you need to know and know what to "look" for. The shops down there are pretty much "lawn mower" repair guys....not 928 guys. I'm about 120 miles away, which is pretty far, for a pre-purchase inspection.

Hmm.... he did talk about excessive oil consumption in Aug of 2012.. after the rebuild..which in theory should have taken care of the typical GTS oil consumption issues ...

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...lus-miles.html

Someone earlier posted that he has put some miles on it after the rebuild...

Like Greg said....get the leakdown done...should at least answer that question..

good luck...

There are also some enthusiasts down in the San Diego area..maybe they'll chime in ..
