Default Cruise Control

What's the typical issue if the cruise control doesn't work? Easy fix? Thanks

Depends upon what it does/doesn't do.

For total failure, reflow often helps, but problem could also be faulty fuse or brake light switch, or...

If it appears to work, but the car gradually loses speed, the problem is usually a vacuum leak.

^^ this, but also make sure the vacuum system is operational. Archives have plenty of info here. I have checked my vacuum and it works, I moved on to a re-flow of the board. Have not put it back together but I will report back.

Just doesn't work at all. Won't even turn on. I was hoping it was just a fuse or something easy.

Don't want to hijack the thread but my car's cruise control won't engage but if I push the lever forward it does accelerate. Thoughts?

There is a rebuilder that charges $85 to rebuild the brain, but I've lost track of their contacts. Anyone have this info? I have an 86.5 brain to have rebuilt, after the toaster oven baked unit failed.

I had my cruise control brain rebuilt here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw...e+928&_sacat=0. Lifetime warranty, 30 days money back. Mine has worked great since the rebuild. The price has increased to $89.

Typical issues are (in order of common):

1. Vacuum leak in HVAC (87S4 was the last year with Vacuum cruise)
2. Brain in need of resolder
3. Gummed-up or failed actuator (in left front fender just aft of the wheel)

I had no luck at all with the WSM troubleshooting. Everytime I jumped the two pins on the brain plug it blew a fuse which of course was not one of the results documented in the process.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. I just purchased the service. The $89 price includes all shipping, so not bad at all. The feedback is very good on Ebay, over 99% positve. The price on the web page is the same as on eBay.
