We here in the PacNW get lots of moisture as you can imagine...even an engine stored inside but in an unheated space will have condensation build up ...could have built up inside the bores..corroding the valves..

The little chamber that the fuel gets injected into to initiate the ignition. It provides a more complete and even burn:

Condensation or leaked water into an inlet duct could sit on a closed valve, and rust it onto the seat, and first opening of that valve....
Were both bad seats on inlets? Check the back of the valve and the seats for corrosion, but it may have been hammered right out.
My car sat for a while, but I think much less than these cases, and in the centre of Saudi Arabia, and its pretty quiet running still.
Edit: - yes, both inlets , looking at the size relative to the OK valve.

The OTHER visible valve that seems to be correctly seated - looks 'OK' . Is that clearer?

There is a lot of sodium in that there part of town. It will be in the air, water and your lungs. I know for a fact that wood pellets that are manufactured down there on the waterfront are known to eat pellet stove burn pots up.

I think this is all about heat, but some pictures of the head gaskets and that port with the valve removed might tell more.
That one "fire ring" area on the cylinder head that dropped the valve seat is getting pretty darn thin, from coolant attacking that surface.

Not sure about stainless, but one part of the valve is magnetic and one is not, the stem is friction welded to the fluted part. No idea what alloys they _really_ are.
