Default Cam Sprocket dust shields

On my 88 I notice a dust shield behind the passenger side cam sprocket. I do not have one on drivers side. Roger shows two are in PET. Does anyone know if it has to be there or can I wait till next TB. Everything looks to be good since last TB 50,000 ago. I have it just about buttoned up and on the fence as to which way I should go.
Thanks
Thomas

I would put it in as "if" anything goes wrong you will always have this nagging feeling that you should have put it on.
Just my experience with stuff I screw up.

You are talking about the HAL sensor signal rotating plate and calling it a dust shield?

Don,
Thank you for the reply. You say you have the shield for behind the cam sprocket on the drivers side for a 88.

I will see how this progresses and get back with you.

It has been determined that PET shows (2) of what I called dust covers. It turns out there is only one and it is not a dust cover. It is a hall sensor must for the passenger side only.

It's the actuating plate for the hall-sensor, PET calls it "Rotor trim" just to confuse everything (928 105 460 01). There is ONE only, on the (US) passenger side for the hall sensor. I am certain that was the case with our GT, and I just checked the pictures for the S4, only one-- not fitted on the drivers side (you can see the rear-cover casting through the sprocket holes). PET shows qty "2", that is wrong.

Cheers, Jim

It should be the one on the right. I'm about to put it up for sale with many other parts. Let me know if you are interested.

Don,
If you could turn the cover on the left over and post a picture it would be of great help.

Might help to sell also.
