Thanks for the great news Jeff, I thought we were still waiting for these. I will get with Roger in the AM.

Stan,
I will only need the drivers side as the PS has all the coating on it. Are you thinking I should get both because new manufacturer now?
I will get the new steel oil pump gear (and remove the spacer) and the crank gear. Thanks for all your help today.

Replace the cam gears in sets!

Actually, both the oil pump and the crankshaft gear wear also. Porsche, of course, superceeded the oil pump gear to a steel one, because of the high wear rate of the original aluminum one.

Many people fail to pay any attention to the crank gear, but since it turns twice as much as the cam gears, it usually has significant wear, even though it is steel.

If you fail to replace this gear, it "transfers" it's wear pattern into the new belt, which transfers that wear to the new cam gears. The belt is only going to be as good as the surface it touches.

An "original belt" frequently would last 60,000 miles from the factory. The 1st replacement belts would usually "make it" about 45,000 miles. The 2nd replacement belts frequently would not last 30,000 miles.....all because of the accelerated wear from worn gears.

most of the higher mile belt jobs I do also include a new crank driven gear,
to check it put a straight edge on the top of the tooth and see if its flat front to back,
if its cupped then a new gear should be installed

Attempting to pass that knowledge/proceedure on to the the "home" guys here.

Good to give them a visual way of checking!
