My port-mortem for the belt itself would likely read along the lines of age-induced Haser’s syndrome, resulting in the above terminal condition.

And when the owner gets the invoice, I'm predicting the following symtoms will present:
Intense pain (Localized in the wallet area);
Profuse sweating;
Difficulty in breathing;
Pronounced pallor;
Irregular heartbeat with increased heart rate;
Acute hypertension;
And...wait for it.....
**** leakage.

How many miles on the car?
I helped change an original belt on a 91S4 a year or so ago. The car had 43k miles and the belt looked fine, but maybe looks can deceive on old timing belts. Could have turned out like this.

Hmm! Assuming 32 pieces of "Bent Silver", everything in the cam drive system up the shoot, wobbly valve guides, pistons OK[carbon dent only?]- any takers for the final bill here?
Start the bidding at $10k for the repair? Whatever it is going to hurt- how the $*&k does a 95 still have the original TB on? Criminal- 5 years hard labour appropriate here?

I couldn't figure out what would have made it break, so not surprised to hear it was cut off.
Rob how about measuring or comparing it to a new belt?
I am thinking failure may have been stretch, followed by slipping on the crank. When the motor stops seems like the most likely time for a tooth skip as the motor may actually turn backwards a bit.
I've heard plenty worse about first time Porsche owners. People used to US cars that never needed oil added to them. Whatever this costs, when the owner is done they will have a dandy 95 GTS.

91GT I bought last August with 24K miles had all original TB, WP and tensioner. Replaced all parts, and they all looked new. Car had not been driven since 2000, but why take a chance..

this is a MINIMUM $10k repair......look at all those bent valves......piston hits too....I'm guessing those should be replaced...... It could EASILY be $20k plus if the owner decides to upgrade along the way....
sad.....

So would this count as the first Timing Belt failure, due to the belt, that Greg has seen? He commented recently that he had never seen a failure in which the root cause was actually the belt.

Crap deal and one many a new owner has had to deal with.
Just pulled this off a 2nd owner, 62k mile car that has been in storage since 2002.
