Front Cam seals
As I mentioned earlier I replaced the cam gaskets and replaced the front cam seals. However, when I replaced the left side (driver's side) cam the large O-ring did not slip inside the cam tower. I asked a knowledgeable mechanic about the problem and he thought that the Pinched O-ring would seal the opening. Problem, the leak is back. There seems to be 2 different sizes of O-rings for the 16V engine. The 50x5 and the 52x4, I know that I installed a 50x5 is this the problem. I know that I will have to do the job again on this side but I want to make sure that it does not leak this time. Any suggestions, Yes I know find a better mechanic for advice. But he is my dad and he saved this car from the wrecking yard. 1979 #183

There is a small plug/seal that you needed to replace and that is the major source of the leaks on the 16v cam carriers.

Part of the learning curve, I ordered parts from someone other than the Big Three. Lesson learned, pay a little more, work with people who know these cars and care about them being on the road and enjoyed for years to come.
