Default Hatch lock "case"!

Hi,

My hatch lock “case” (upper part) is completely beyond repair, broken in two places and weared out in the area of the screws. That is one of the reasons why I can't align my hatch perfectly! The lock itself is ok and works perfectly.
The prices for the complete assembly, even used, are a bit high, so I remember to ask if any of the Rennlisters have a forgotten hatch lock case laying around, WITH ALARM (it’s the bigger case with the hole for the wire) that is willing to sell, so I can “transplant” my lock into the case.
Although the shipping costs to Europe may be high, the problem is that I can’t find a place that sells only the case; they sell only the complete “package”, case, lock with key and wire with plug to connect the alarm, hence the high prices.
Thanks in advance and please let me know if someone can help me with this.

Regards

Those are pretty hard to get used as they all seem to crack/break.

New I think is around $500 or so, so most with broken upper latch are re-keying earlier model ones and leaving alarm part unplugged.

Hi,

I tought about a normal non alarm lock, they have a more reasonable price, but I'm a fan of originality in every detail, and besides the fact of having another key just for the hatch, I don't know if leaving the alarm unpluged wil not interfere with it, like giving a false alarm of open hatch.

If the wire is left unplugged, there is no false alarm. It is just when the car is locked, and you open the hatch with the key it will not disable the alarm and it will go off.

Also you can pull your existing lock cylinder and put it in the older style. I was lucky and bought a complete used set of locks for an '86.5 and used the rear hatch lock on my 'newish' '86.5. A P.O. had replaced with older style and like you I just could not stand it. Problem now it the nylon release part is worn to the point it will not open with auto open.

There was a thread a few months back where a gentleman was going to replicate the case with CNC equipment. I can't find it on my phone - does anyone have an update there? I need one, too!

^^^ If we're talking about the same person, he still has my sample piece, but it never happened...

Yes there was a person that had contacted me and Roger was kind enough to send him a sample. I have tried contacting him but have not received any updates.

^^^ That would not be the same person I was thinking about... I provided a sample lock piece a few years ago, but it never turned into any new parts.
