Default Wraping vs Repaint

Has anyone ever had their 928 wrapped vs a repaint? I'm thinking about it, but don't know anything about the cost, or how long it lasts.

My car's paint is pretty good. I'd like to keep it that way, so I figure a wrap might protect the factory paint, and look good too. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Funny you should mention this Joe. I am thinking the same thing. Mine is either going to get painted or wrapped in the next couple months. I`m also interested in cost and quality of these wraps.

Joe...I have no idea but after my move I would be more than happy to help paint your car when needed.

From what I see on the net...its about $3000 to wrap. I would think any damage would just require that panel rewrapped and matching color should not be an issue.

Thanks Dean! After 23 years the paint has held up quite well, but the front end needs a respray. All the mechanical maintance is up to date now, just cosmetics need to be addressed.

I saw a gold colored wrapped 928 at third coast. It looked quite nice and I believe the cost was close to the cost for a modest repaint. It takes some work to get the wrap on correctly on each panel. I'm going to wrap the roof of my VW just because I don't want to mess with paint. Not something I'd go for, but it can be done right.

$3000+ to wrap a car? Geez, I just paid $4500 to have my 951 repainted and they did a great job!

Over on OT, Dr G had a wrap put on his R8, and it looks fantastic. But the film they used is almost a clear type product, and more like the material used for clear bra's. It didn't change the color, and his paint is perfect.

I'm still going to keep my car black, just thought I might add some carbon fiber look to offset and make it look more modern. Prolly just let Dean help me with a respray.

Hi Joe!

If you are looking for a CF accent I have a fiberglass wing wrapped in CF you can have. I bought it some time ago thinking i would use it some day. Rather than sitting in the rafters I'd rather it was being enjoyed by someone.

It will need some head scratching regarding the mounting set up. The PO used a molly bolt configuration that to me seems there must be a better way to affix the wing.

Let me know if you want it and I will pack it up and send it. It is in very good condition.

Dan

P.S. Where are you? I'm presently in New Orleans to attend a niece's wedding tonight.

Andrew and I drove over to Anaheim (928Intl) and picked up all the needed parts. I also had an additional list like wheel bearings. Everthing inside the fenderwell is replaced and the fender popped back out to its original shape. Of course the paint poped off also. I picked up used front and back plastic bumper sections, both had cracks. Right now all that needs to happen is cosmetic. Thats why im looking at this wrap also..

Hey Joe, take a look at this website. skinzwraps.com They have a place in Phoenix and some of their stuff looks great. They are working me up a quote for the 928. I really like the Blue or the Charcoal Matte look they have. One on a Maserati and the other on a BMW. I`ll let you know when I get a number from them. K
