Believe it or not, Harbor Freight has a set of horns for $20-ish, that actually sound good and legit....I got a set on sale for $12....I have them on #30, the 82, and the 79! Found it...$10 now!!

I did a horn project long ago that I may not have (?) ever discussed or photographed. I was motivated by the relatively quiet 928 horns (IMO) and the city/country horns on traditional old British GT cars - with a soft & loud option for the horn volume level.

Sometimes you want to gently remind honk someone (beep beep) to move off when the lights have changed. Other times it's more urgent that you get their attention right now, or you have some other statement to make (BLAHHH!)

To keep the ergonomics easy and intuitive there are no new controls. I added a new relay by the stock horns which are retained, I also added a pair of Hella Supertone horns in the nose - roughly where the flap motor was on earlier S4 cars. In operation - if you tap the horn button for <~1/3 second the stock horns beep - if you hold on a little longer the power switches over to the Supertones and things get a lot louder. I made the relay system myself to work with a standard Bosch SPDT relay - it just has a brief delay before coil activation, and the delay is reset as soon as you deactivate. Its possible to do repeated soft beep, beep beeps without activating the loud sounds - but the delay is not really a problem for the loud mode. Its as loud as stock instantly - then Superloud quite quickly. The loud mode is very rarely activated - but when it is - it sounds like a big horn that you can't ignore!
