Shocking Shock question
I had purchased a pair of Sachs Shocks for my car before reading on here how great my bilsteins are!
I just don't like how my car handles small bumps and uneven roads! Maybe they just need to be redone, I'm not sure. They don't appear to be leaking or blown out.
Do I need to do anything special to use the Sachs? I really don't like the idea of sending off my current pair to be recharged. I would rather replace the fronts and see how they change my ride.
I think I remember that there are parts that need to be changed and if it's too much of a PITA I guess I will go the recharge route.
Any specifics of what needs to be done?
thanks

can you provide more info about the ride your experiencing?
To Whit Bilstiens provide a solid ride some might consider it stiff
The Black Boges/Sachs will provide a Caddilac floaty ride compared to the Bilstiens
The Red Boges will be a bit stiffer than the blacks
Koni no ideas some like them others dont.
My suggestion if you dont like your Bilstiens swap in some Black Boges and see how things feel,
you could always sell off the Bilstiens, or not like a floaty ride and swap em back in.
All of these references are with the stock springs installed,
If you're swapping in new shocks ,
all 4 of them should be replaced for maximum overdrive!

You will need different hardware to fit the Boges - IIRC Upper Spring Perch, threaded sleeve and nut.

My stock M474 Bilsteins do provide a firm ride, but it can be harsh over broken surfaces. Going over railway track crossings is just a rumble. That said, on decent surfaces they are fabulous, and get better the faster you go - no floating, everything taut.
I replaced the fronts 15k ago, and rebuilt the rears ~5k ago, so they are in very good shape. I run stock tyre/wheels at 38-40psi all round, and at stock ride height.
See if you can find a rebuilder for the Bilsteins....they have been very hard to get new lately apparently.

the good news is Sachs are rebuildable....which means you can have them valved anyway you want based off your spring rates
I had my racers bilsteins rebuilt-revalved for heavier springs and it was EXCELLENT.....I thought it handled good before....its unreal now.....well worth $160 per shock

We have plenty of Bilsteins in stock for $928 for the set of four.
When I first put Bilsteins on my GTS I found them very harsh. After about 6 months and a few miles they became much better and I love them now.

I indeed have the bilsteins and they sure are harsh around town,,,,,but at speed, great!!
wish I had adjustable impact and rebound to customize the ride...I see there are places that sell these types that can be adjusted from the cabin...really cool idea

I know Bilsteins are a bitch. I've upgraded a damn volvo 740 to where it handled better, with stock 15" 190/65 tires than almost any car I've ever driven. Of course I upgraded to European spec the whole suspension!
I just hate to WAIT for the Bilstein's to be rebuilt/revalved. But if I would have to replace other parts anyway I might just do it.
I know there's something wrong, my little 944 has a very firm ride, but it glides over irregular roads, bumps etc! Guess I'll bite the bullet on this and check into either a rebuild or new bilsteins.
