Looks great Mj! How is the airflow from the louvers? That is the exact stereo I've been watching - how do you like it?
Thanks Allen!
The air flow is great, seems on par with the stock louver. I'm really digging your flush mount kit, was very easy to work with...Kudos on a Great product!
I love this head unit, it's full Android so it can do just about anything, and everything from the android market is compatible. I haven't done it yet but I will be setting up the sceen background to disply the Porsche logo for a very OEM look.
in the early cars 78-79, the **** turns a shaft with a gear on the end that moves the louver. if you look in the picture you can see it. but big that it is spaced away, and at an angle, a longer shaft would not work. so i just cut the shaft and glued in a wire in its place. works well so far.
Jake,
I've never handled one of the old style louvers - how does the **** actuate the wire you came up with?
I do think the late model vent louvers look better - but they don't work better. The early **** version is actually more functional. Smaller vents mean more concentrated flow. The wider later vents only serve to bounce some air from the far LHS right off of the side of the instrument pod - which disturbs the main direct airflow. It is pointless and quite counter productive.
I will eventually equip my GTS with the earlier (better) vents - I have them already.
The years '81 - '83 have the best airflow flap control capabilities IMO, though they don't actually use these features very well. They have a dual level auto control of the center vent flow (dual level vacuum pod) but lack a good manual over-ride control option.
I would use that '81-'83 vacuum actuator controlled console vent with the early style air-vent louvers - but with the **** controlling an electrical switch that allows some direct manual control of the dual flow vent. However various programmed events should also be able to over-ride this: DEF should always shut the center vents, Bi-Level/Console Vent should close the center vent to at least half as should the other split modes (Up/Console Vent; Down/Console Vent). Porsche never got this quite right... Their changes on the console vent mode were a bit schizophrenic here (most likely different engineers with entirely different ideas...) they go from full manual, to full automatic and back to essentially full manual - what they missed was this hybrid combo that allows the best of both worlds.
My 78 has no **** or shaft sticking out....I don't know if it ever did....I see no components for such. My spare console does tho....I think it is from an 83.
I'm not at home to take any pics with the lights on but here is a couple close up's which show where I placed my clock, however it's not the factory clock.
Exactly what I was after, and a lot better than I could make myself! I do not have any sort of adjustment **** for my center vent, so the 2 round air diffusers would also be perfect!
I would be interested to buy a 2DIN console as in the picture.
I want to keep my console as much as possible close to the stock design, especially the upper air vents.
How can I fix a 2DIN head unit to that console, are there mounting brackets?
Can I use the upper air vent with the small lever right side as in the stock version?
How much would be the price?
Best Regards,
Thomy
