That is not only true about Porsche - my E320 came from NSW.
Are you north or south and do you have a 928?

Cheers

I`m south Adam.. I have a 928, 931.. and a 911... Ive spent a lot of money on the 928 over the last couple of years, respray, head gaskets, tyres, interior, new stainless exhaust, just did new brakes etc etc, probably spent around 15k on it since 2010, and it was a pretty reasonable car before that!

Any chance I can have a look at your 928 to see what a good one is supposed to be like before I trundle off to the mainland......?

Thanks

This is my car, I bought it 10 years ago. Most reliable car Ive ever owned! I paid TOP dollar for it locally back then and to be truthful I`m glad I did. These cars can give you a LOT of grief...but because I paid good money for a good car... its been a good car! The "bargains" are not bargains.. and there are only one or two places you can take them for proper servicing by people that know what they are doing here in Tassie.

Daves your man though, he`s fastidious with his vehicles and if you find something I`d ask him about it!

G'day Adam There is a local guy here with 5 X 928s, he should be selling something, I'll see if I catch up with him and see what he is up to, last I heard he had a mate who was turning one over as well.

Cheers Roy

Hey Adam!

Firstly, it's great to see an Aussie dominated thread on here!

Secondly, if you happen to come through country NSW in your search, I'd be happy to let you give my 928 a good thrash to see how a well sorted one feels. Spent a ridiculous amount of money over the first 5 years of ownership, but the last 4 have been near perfect. Like sturatbrs above, mine was a good one to begin with, but it still needed money. Good luck!

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

There are what looks like some good ones in Sydney at the moment, so maybe... not sure how far from Sydney you are?

Thanks

Hi Adam,

I've often seen what looked like good cars (all sorts) in Tassie and cursed the fact that I simply couldn't drive one back to where I lived (at the time in Sydney). About 90% of my car purchases have come from far away, must be one of Murphy's laws..

Dave sounds really knowledgeable so if there's something in the apple isle then I'm sure he's your man. Otherwise, I think there's quite a few good ones in Melbourne thanks to their love of things European, and the fact that it's cheaper to own a car there than it is in NSW...

good luck
Jim

Thanks Jim,

Yes Dave has already been a big help and had a nice long chat with him.
So far there are 3 x S3s in Sydney that interest me most, there are others around too (S and non S) in Melb, but nothing down here - save for the aforementioned custom black paint scheme one!
From my experience (especially with Mercs) there is much more choice on the North Island.....

Cheers

Adam......what they said ^

It's the age old story, buy the best possible car that you can. Spending $5k more on a well maintained car is well worth it, you will spend $5k on these cars in the blink of an eye.

I'm in Melbourne, I wanted an S4 and I ended up getting mine from Sydney. Number 1 for me was a well maintained car but I really wanted dark blue and cashmere if possible and one eventually came up that happened to be well maintained by the same mechanic for 10 years.

Be warned that in reality the purchase price is irrelevant, it's just a down payment on the lifestyle.....the car will make you smile every time you drive it and when you think your spending too much on it think about the sucker who spent over $200k on these beasts more than 20 years ago....

PM me if you want assistance with any Melbourne based cars

Dave

Hi Dave,

I may well yet take you up on your offer as there are none down here.
My main priorities is finding a good one in a colour combo that pleases me (may not get my dream combo) and is mechaniclally very good. I also want it to out perform my Mercedes.

It is out there somewhere and I will find it.

Thanks

Adam

I'm in Dubbo, NSW, 4.5 hours from Sydney! I guess you'd need to be driving from Melbourne to Brsibane to go through Dubbo.
