The real reason for discontinuing the 928

Corollary: The drivers airbag sensor was suspended from a fishing line in the development lab, and the car was then assembled around it.

They needed more 8 digits for the new Boxster (986) in 1996, so terminated the 928 and 968 in 1995 to ensure sufficient supply of that rare digit. In contrast they had and still have lots of 1 digits. As an aside, terminating the 968 also freed up the supply of 6s for the Boxster.

The evolution of the World Wide Web had proven to be faster and moving ****** than a Porsche would ever be possbile of, so all efforts focused on how the 911 could increase magnitude...

Demise of the 928
Actually, it was caused by a convergence of consequences on a grander scale:
The looming "Year 2000" problem, coupled with the worldwide shortage of odometer gears; the plastic gas tank supplier's unexpected insolvency and the Porsche engineers' inability to enlarge the battery box to accommodate an additional warning light in the Pod; and finally, the retirement and subsequent move to Florida of the two elderly gentlemen who made all of the wiring harnesses.
To think that our prized automobile was undone by these unforeseen and seemly unrelated consequences truly boggles the mind.

When the world was flat, everyone KNEW the 356 was the best Porsche car ever... When we found out the world was round, everyone KNEW the 911 was the supreme Porsche car of all time... And in 1995, everyone knew that putting more than six cylinders & two seats in a Porsche was a waste of materials...
