If its '80 model year should it have 17 digit VIN at later location? I think it should. If that location is not visible that is one place to check.

 

17 digit VINs started in '81 in the US market. There should be a VIN on that pad in the wheelwell, though it's stamped from the engine compartment so it'll be 'backwards' in the wheelwell, and it may not have transferred through well. SHould be able to see at least some of it in the engine compartment, just to the rear of the 14 pin connector and TSZ ignition box.

 

OK, I wasn't sure when long VIN stamping started, '80 or '81.

If all else fails there is one possibility of getting original VIN. Bodies I have seen there is separate serial number stamped at firewall well hidden in engine bay at center of car. There is small hope that factory has info on this number and what VIN was used in that body.

But it is likely more easy to get bad condition body with papers and move number from it. Though in any case it makes no financial sense at all at current 928 prices.

 

If I were a betting man, I'd think that car was hot based upon what you said and what it shows. Somebody purposefully removed those vin tags and ground this one down from the looks of it.

 

You have right ....for sure by intention removed VIN, looks so clean and polished the area !
I will try interior if remained something! Also trying to contact Porsche Stuttgart Oldtimer, but unsuccessfully they are very busy and English is not very likely for them !

starting from next week i will dismantle interior and then exterior. In the same time, try to speak again with Porsche Oldtimer headquarters, because they promise to call and never do that, yes ....because Romania!
I really hope to find a way to find VIN, form Porsche or .... from car ....

An M28/11 82D0XXX serial number means the engine (block) is originally from a 1983 European market 5-speed car, so if the car is in fact a 1980, it's not the original engine. Can you get the serial number from the transmission? (bottom of the 3rd to rearmost 'rib' on the transmission case). It'll look something like this:

 

1980...is the year told by let's say owner!

Remove the dashboard, and on the passenger's side (for a LHD car), near the windshield you should find a number stamped starting with 12.
Please let us know if you find this number.

Now, we know that this 928 was the 2849th ordered of the 1983 model-year.
Your next step will be to contact Porsche AG or your local importer, with a proof that you are the owner of this particular car, and Porsche AG can certainly find the VIN of the car.
From this number and the engine number, M28/11 82D 0668, I think that your car was one of the 824 RoW manual 928 S of the 1983 model-year. 721 were LHD cars, like yours.
The gearbox number would also help. I suppose that it will start with G28/07. It is stamped just under the gearbox.

If you provide these three numbers (production number, engine and gearbox), Porsche must be capable to find the VIN and confirm if the engine and the engine's numbers match their records.

The original VIN must be something like WP0ZZZ92ZDS84???? .
