PET (the Porsche parts program that has VIN lookup) that some of us have drawn data from, amongst many other sources, has some data missing and some errors. The VIN decode program, referenced here as a link on Rennlist, would draw data from the same server and therefore see the same error we see. The data error for your car means we can note the error, but the Porsche database will still list it that way.

Only '80-95 928 info is available since Porsche closed PET lookup feature.

Hi all,

I have just bought an '78 928 in Grand Prix white. Is it possible for any of you to decode the vin, and check for option codes?
VIN: 9288101803

Thanks in advance

Welcome,

Here is the official thread for this kind of request:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...n-78-79-a.html

and sorry, we can't find anything for the 1978/1979 928s.

You have to ask your Porsche importer for a certificate of authenticity. First, have a look at the engine, gearbox and body numbers to confirm them.

I can only tell you that you own a RoW 1978 928.

There's an "Official VIN Check" thread for that. Won't tell you color, but will give you options.

Take wing off and see if VIN is under it. Changing wing does not destroy number which is stamped to body. Putting older wing which do not have opening for VIN will hide it.
