Default Question on FPR on 86.5

Cam covers and intake manifolds are now painted so will be starting reassembly soon. I saw on another post that it was recomended to run the FPR for the 87. Is this just for when you run the Porken chips? Or as a general rule? I'll be installing a set of Lucas 01D062B injectors that I got from 928motorsports. Also headers, airpump delete, cat delete and x-pipe. I'd do the Porken chip but I can't really do a new MAF and TPS right now. Pretty much blown through my budget right now.

you only use the 87 FPR with the Porken chips.

You may have the S4 injectors at 19LB ,
and need the 24LB for the 85 86

a quick search reveals

Brand New Lucas Fuel Injector 01D062B
19lb; 200cc/min at 43.5 psi 14 Ohms
Ford Jeep Chevrolet BMW Dodge Mercedes Benz Land Rover Porsche

and more IIRC the 85 86 engine use the 24 LB injectors

(0280150947) 24lbs
LUCAS P/N: 01D029B
Replaces part numbers:
92860612000, 7509862,7560162
This is a set of U.S. manufactured Lucas 24lb fuel injectors that are cross-referenced to Porsche 928 and SAAB 900 Turbo.
Buy with confidence - 100% Guarantee.
The Lucas 01D029B replaces the old Bosch part number 0280150706.

NOTE whomever you get the injectors from make sure that they also supply you the correct O rings for the injectors.
You should measure the ones you have to compare them to the new O rings ,
I suggest to blow out the dirt from the injectors prior to removal,
then squirt some WD 40 into the mounting areas this will ease removal
Use Dow Corning 111 on the new O rings to ease installation, make sure the injectors are secured to the fuel rails with the clips.

Ken, don't read this but... I didn't rebuild the MAF or TPS. My car still acted like it woke up from a coma.

Get the '87 FPR and the Porken chips... you'll thank me...

Stan is right (sometimes I get tired of typing that. ). The S3s need the 24lb injectors, not 19s.

The 87FPR is only if you are going with the Porken chips. If your car is tuned well, idles steadily and all the readings are good for CO and the sensors (temp switches, Idle switch, WOT switch, MAF readings) then your car can handle the Porken chips. He recommends rebuilt MAF and I guess TPS (news to me) because if yours are no good or out of calibration, it might seem OK with stock chips but his chips will put more demand on them and if it runs like crap you might start pointing fingers at the chips when it's really some issue that already existed.

If you have a clean sheet, then the chips are going to work as advertised. But if yours test OK, it's absolutely NOT a requirement, just a suggestion.

So: headers, cat delete, air pump delete and X-pipe... I guess you don't live in a community with noise pollution laws! That's going to be a beast of a car. Good luck with it.

The CPS is a good sensor to replace pre-emptively on one of these.

For ease of access, if you can call it that, its a good time to do it when the exhaust is down and the junk is all stripped off the rear of the intake.

The other thing I'd suggest is adding Porken's auxillary driveline clamp.

The TPS case can be split, tested, and the switch drained of oil ( it will be full ) and a new oring put onto it while intake is apart. Hard to do it with rest of intake installed. Doable, but you'd scratch up the painted parts.

Default Air pump delete

what method are you going with on the air pump delete?
Are you going to run a shorter belt to the mechanical fan?

I think most just run the lawn mower belt, 21" or 22" depending on your AC option, I have for years w/o any cooling issues.

Going with an electric fan for the airpump delete and the drilling clamp that 928motorsports carries. I liked the design a little better.

The 86.5 is the same as the 85-86 cars for the intake and fueling, so those Lucas injectors are too small. You need 24 lb injectors. And yes you will need the 87 S4 or an adjustable fuel regulator to run the Porken chips.

I hate auto correct. Need to start proof reading before I hit send.
That would be driveline clamp not "drilling".

Yeah. I'll have to call Carl on the injectors. Those were the ones his site recommended.

And thanks Stan. I appreciate the info. I was doing a little more research. Question. On the Bosch web site
the specs call out an operating pressure of 2.5 Bar which comes out to 36.25 PSI for the stock injectors. so how do we come up with 24Lb injectors? Are these two different thing we're talking about? Just wondering, this is all new to me. Thanks
