Burning Brakes
I went and checked out the car today. I will post the photos in a few posts. But here is a summary:
87 928S4 with 210k on the clock. Red on tan. It is for sale at a 2nd-tier used car lot. Lots of cars that look too old or tired to sell on dealer lots. The salesman I dealt with was John Carlin (303-514-6987). He knows nothing about 928s and says so. They are asking $3988 but you can see where they were asking $4988 and it is now on "clearance". I think $3k would sell it easily. I wouldn't pay $3k, though.

The bad:
Here are some exterior shots.

The good:
- Looks relatively clean under the hood.
- Looks pretty dry underneath.
- The body panels are all there and mostly straight.
- No rust that I could see - is a Colorado car
- Has the flip-up wing.
- I assume it also has the oil squirters.
- It is a Porsche 928S4
The bad:
- Terrible knock when running. It was louder than a lifter and actually made the car shudder a bit. It really sounded to be coming from the belt-driven area, so a water pump is a possibility. (I did not run it long enough to see if the timing belt light would come on.)
- No service records.
- Anti-lock light comes on right away, meaning bad electrical or relay
- Brake pad light comes on.
- Passenger window inop.
- Sunroof inop.
- Rear hatch remote releases inop (it whirs but doesn't release).
- A/C inop.
- Mirrors inop (actually the remote moves them, but not in the desired direction and when trying to adjust the passenger, the driver moves).
- Busted taillight and foglight.
- Missing front spoiler.
- Missing belly pans.
- Horrible repaint that is cracking and lifting. This might be the thickest repaint ever. There is also overspray on wheels and in the hatch.
- Missing coin tray in driver door.
- Leather is torn in two places on driver seat. All leather needs treatment.
- Many broken vent slats.
- Weird smell inside.
- Mold on passenger tray, so I am guessing a leaking blower box.
- Carpet is pretty dirty.
- Wheels look like they have been dipped in acid - chalky.
Here are some exterior shots.

Drifting
Bummer. I was willing to take a chance if it was cosmetically decent and didn't seem to have too many mechanical problems, but this is way too rough. I appreciate you taking the time to check it out and report back. I owe you a beer, at the very least.

Another thanks for checking out the car and posting your findings. Pretty nifty community here. Always amuses me how presentable cars can appear from a few photos. Gotta check 'em out in person!

Found pics of the San Diego car. How bad would the salvage title hurt the value?
