Default 928 S4 "Exclusive" - was it a real thing?

While looking for something completely different, I ran across these photos showing a purported factory optioned widebody:

http://transaxle.homeip.net/928/928S...sive/Index.htm

Was this a real build? Reason I ask is that I am planning on purchasing a local burn car, and was intending on using it for parts as the driver front fender area received a lot of heat - enough to cause the spring to collapse and consume most of the fender. However, it has a very similar flare to this. Running the VIN through PET found no X codes or anything similar, but if it is strange piece of 928 history, I would rather find a replacement front clip and rebuild it than salvage it out.

Thanks
Hans

Leon,

So that was a factory optioned rear flare? I am going to examine the flares on the burn car closely, and see if they are the same. Burn car is at an insurance lot, so don't have access to it for a couple days.

Thanks
Hans

Hans, see pic 3 in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...and-today.html

It looks factory to me, but I don't know the option.

It looks very close. I don't like how the rear bumper cover ends into the flare. And did it have the 944 type front lights?

When I have put values into Blue Book "Wide Body" has come up as an option. Now I know that 911's had such options but sounds like a regular option from Porsche.

Hans,

THere were factory rear arches that look like that.

See posts 12 and 13 in this thread for more pics of 928's with them:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-like-gts.html

There was a factory Exclusive option XC1 for them - however some cars don't have the option code, so it was presumably also part of an options package.

As for the "928 Exclusive" model - as far as I know from research (Erkka may have more), that model designation is unique to the Japanese market and represented a standardised set of options which were branded locally as a new model. This is similar to the "928 S2" unique to the UK (310hp motor, ABS as standard etc. from 84-86).

There is one of these cars available in my local area as well......

Danny's car as listed above has GTS flares, not this style.

At 3rd Coast last week, Steve from Minn had a late 91GT that had GTS flares from the factory. He said he had paperwork saying it was made that way for the NY Auto show. T

X options are not listed in PET before late '89 MY. Earlier cars with those round flares and 43mm spacers probably exist but how many and what markets they were made for is not known. Some had slant nose treatment also while others didn't. Front end was separate X option.
