LOL... no he didnt. I believe that the PO got it like this from the a different PO. On top of those lights was a smoked piece of plexi that was attached with wood screws... a total nightmare.

truthfully, it isnt that bad.. a pair of tail lights and a grinder and its remedied. Luckily, I am pretty decent with bondo and a grinder.

My thought is that if someone thought this is a good idea, what else have they done that you haven't seen?

The seats do look nice BTW. I could be wrong but I think they've been recovered. They normally have deep seems in the bottom part that makes them more like cushions. Yes, the 928 seats are really nice. Designed for long excursions on the autobahn.

There should be a black vinyl bead between the fenders and nose (in red). In your picture it looks like this has been eliminated and filled.

lol.. amen to that. I am pretty sure I can find some used tail ights to remedy that issue. Other than that and a few zip ties I see in the engine compartment, it doesnt look like too much has been molested... but yet again I know very little about these cars.

is it like a vinyl molding, or weatherstripping? is it a piece that is separate and goes in between the two, or was it attached to the bumper cover?

I kind of like the clean no gap look. It is very common to do that sort of thing to low riders. Putting tragically ugly autozone tail lights is not however. lol

ah ok. I know exactly what you mean now. I dont mind the filled look. If I decide to keep it that way I am still going to redo it. I am planning on grinding out all the filler, and then stripping it down to bare metal soon. I wish I could find a good used fender for cheap. I guess I am going to take advantage of the 928intl half off special.

man., I didnt even think about that. even with the 50% off the shipping is going to drive the price up there. I need to find a salvage yard that has a 928 in it. Or an ebay seller who is local (within 150) miles.

the reason for the bead on the front and rear bumpers is because the bumper covers are polyurethane, and they bolt to metal body structures. The bead fills the gaps. Looking at your car, I can see that it was hit in the rear (the bumper cover is puckered in). It was obviously hit in the front, so I am guessing this thing isn't straight anymore. Also, the interior is not really in good shape - the seats are recovered with a non-porsche covering (and not very well from the pictures posted), the pod has some sort of franken-cap on it, which also means it is toast underneath; the door panels are shot. Also, forget about ever putting ac in that car. Who knows what is left of it. The cabin air sensor appears to be gone - there is just a cap/cover where the sensor would have gone.
It sounds like you may have a decent engine (as far as that goes, for a 4.5 liter). Your best bet would be to find a decent roller in a similar or close year, and use the car you just bought as a parts donor for the roller. I would take 2 cars and make one decent one. I wouldn't put another nickel into the one in the pictures here.
That's just my 2 cents, which is worth even less; it is your car and do whatever you will.

I hate to admit it but I have to agree with linderpat, there are just too many small (and some big) things wrong with this car, it will be a very long and very expensive journey to get it right.
