That's definitely a big factor. Another factor is that the number of 928 radiators produced is a dwarf relative to other makes/models, so that also drives the price up.

My current price on the FACTORY Behr radiator with coolers at both ends is $880 plus shipping.
Can be used in all cars 78 to 95 without issue. If you only need one cooler or no coolers you just leave them capped.
The only exception would be the 90 to 95 manual cars where the factory no cooler rad is cheaper at $815.

Parts are factory if they are in a Porsche box from Porsche, OEM parts are from the original equpment manufacturer same people who made the one in the Porsche box, aftermarket parts are made by anyone who thinks they can make one.....
So there is no difference in OEM parts and factory parts except for the box and a huge difference in price on many items. The Behr radiators people are buying are OEM so equal to the factory part because it IS THE SAME PART. Made in the same factory, on the same machines, out of the same materials, just not in a Porsche box.....a box which costs several hundred dollars !!

Order one from Ron Davis aluminum radiators in Phoenix and you will get a custom made, more sturdy and probably longer lasting all aluminum unit that probably also cools better, for $946. If you use distilled water, antifreeze and Water Wetter, you will probably never buy another radiator for the car.
I just called them.

As far as the radiator for my 928. I've gone the aftermarket route, on the Pantera, and some of my other cars and the parts don't fit. I went to BEHR for the factory replacement. The one I'm pulling out came with the car, so 23 years ain't bad. If our vendors advertised thier radiators as a direct replacement, I would have bought one from one of them. I hate to have to modify aftermarket parts to fit!
Now I am really kicking myself for not stopping by your house last time I was out there. Planning to fly out for a long weekend this summer. I'll let you know then for sure.

I had a custom 928 International All Aluminum radiator. Made for that car IIRC from what I have read in the receipts for the car. It was $800 or so 10 years ago.

This issue is a pretty dead horse on the 928 forum. There are the factory guys and there are the custom guys and it appears you won't sway one to the other side either way.

Where's the evidence that there exists an aftermarket radiator that fits in the 928 and cools better than the stock 928 radiator?

I'd like to see a show of hands of people with aftermarket radiators that have lasted over 20 years which the Behr units do on a regular basis.
The sad news is that Behr is no longer making the early radiator according to my sources.

^^^ It'd be "cool" if there was a pre-holiday sale I know I'd buy one and keep it in storage 'til needed.

Five years absolute tops.

We've all been down that road and it is very, very rocky.

There's still lots of original Behr radiators, in early 928s.

I believe that Behr told both you and Roger that you were buying the very "last" of this model radiator, about 50 radiators ago.....

So with 13 and 25 we can keep looking for 12 more somewhere.
