Vin is WP0JB0926KS861161

Sold new in Calif and driven what looks like 10k miles in the first 8 years then up to BainBridge WA, which I think is right on the coast, which could be a concern.

Looks like its had a fancy detail, so might be very hard to see issues that have been made to look nice. Says dealer service, but I suspect the new owner will be dropping some serious immediate coin to bring it up to date, and 19k miles, those first 5k miles are going to knock the value a LOT, 10k and its not all that special anymore.

OTOH I've met people that would very much like this car, if the funds were available.

I hope they get close to their asking price.

It's about time 928s start climbing back up in the used Porsche market, especially rare models in such great shape. This will help keep interest in preserving these great cars.

That this 928 GT is being sold in such a high end car store also makes me happy. The one thing I notice is it looks like someone has put a short shift kit lever in, of which I'm not a fan. Easily changed back though.

By the way, there were no 928s for sale in the latest Pano. They have always been a low number in the used car section, but it seems they are really going away lately.

Nicole,
You ask what it will sell for, so I assume you are referring beyond this current auction.

Hard to predict not knowing sellers sale plan.

May take some time to find a buyer near 60k.

I think it's worth every bit over 50k. It should be worth more.

Mike, you need a new map Bainbridge Island is a few miles from Seattle (in Puget Sound) and where all the Seattle lawyers live. It will likely have been well cared for. And the northwest climate is particularly kind to interiors-- assuming indoor storage.

Many folks also believe that 89 was the best year-- digi-dash with no airbags, conventional limited-slip rather than PSD.

The shifter looks stock GT, a bit shorter than 5-speed S4's & GTS's. The whole car looks remarkably un-messed-with.

As for value, sure driving it will knock it down. But where else will you find a low-miles 928 for that price? Porsche no longer makes them, and if they did the price would be 2 or 3x what these guys are asking.

I hope they get their price, but I think 40-50k is more realistic.

Nicole, thanks for posting!

No truer statement has ever been made... Sky's the limit on this as it is the most desirable 928 made .

Right in our back yard too....still amazes me how many nice 928's are hidden away out there... Nice car...if I had the coin.. I would own it...

the 89 GT really IS the most rare 928 out there.......but their values only barely reflect it.... While it sure looks well cared for.....My guess given the incredibly soft market for anything other than pristine GTS's I think it will sell in the 30's

Thanks for the link. To your question, he does have a BIN at $59.8K, so he'll take a bit less if a 'right offer' comes along, right?

I hope it sells for that, but personally doubt it. The market for these is just not there right now, nor will I hold my breath. Just sayin'.

It's a beautiful example, nonetheless!

Here's another example, but of a higher mileage GT (not all stock w/issues), that went for $12.5. And it sat for a couple of weeks at Buy It Now for somewhere at $14.9K...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT-/2...ht_1883wt_1170

Sure, can't really compare the two, but it is a GT...

I think that car was for sale in 2007 or 2008 for $39k on Autotrader.

Just a bit higher ... 205K miles vs. 20.

At some level, what you are buying with any older car is a license-to-maintain. And maintenance costs are going to be a lot higher for a hi-miles car, than one that is relatively "fresh".

Realistically, at 205K miles most of the mechanical parts (engine, tranny, etc) are in need of refreshing. So if the 205K GT is worth $12.5K (which I think is realistic for that car), then take that price and add back in the cost of rebuilding the engine, TT, and tranny, replacing clutch, CV's and bearings, dash and upholstery, and whatever else it takes to make that car comparable to this low-miles GT. What do you get? I don't know, but I bet it is a lot closer to $59K than 12.5.

To me, low miles isn't magic, it simply means that most of the mechanical lifetime still lies ahead. Which makes a "license to maintain" pretty darned valuable.

And sure, a 20K mile car will need some hoses and such, but that stuff is peanuts compared to the big stuff. And it could also have some hidden issues, which is why MW's cars fetch a premium: they won't.

Cheers,

Cheers,
I agree with that Jim, the 20k mi. is very attractive indeed. Plus 20k mi. of wear is virtually fresh, as it can be, in regards to the interior and such.

The hidden issues with these 928's are always scary to me, not saying this example has them, but also buying one from a dealer is never an option for me vs. buying one personally, from the previous owner.

btw, what is "MW's"?

Am I the only missing the 'version special GT' M639 on the option codes?

Bueller? Maybe I missed it.

Michael Willhoit (website here), always has some exceptional cars. He posts here occasionally as "turbobooost".

Good eye... But there is a "GT indicators/package" on the window-sticker. We need Tom M to go check the engine code.
edit: And the engine is listed as 326hp...
