Default Sharktoberfest 2012 - Host Hotel - PICS

Trip and at hotel

Ready to roll....

Every road trip needs to start off with a good meal - Lobster Rolls and Bisque for 2.

From Room - Traffic Jam at Diamond Bar 1:30 pm - Found out it was a horrific accident. Very sad.

How would have thought? - deer on the hill in LA, next to the freeway and hotel.

I think they were checking out the 928s in the parking lot.

New Arrivals

Speaks for itself - Man At Work

Ditto.

Still Jammed at 6:00

Meeting nice 928 folks.

A Porsche Shuttle is a nice touch.

So nice, so nice........

I am starting to like red....

It was very nice meeting you all. Wish I had more time to chat with everyone.

My car ran really well those 2 days and I have not stopped yet. Plan to drive all week long. I think I have a fever of a 928 deg.

Mark

Great pics and thanks for posting, and if you are starting to like red watch out. The flag mirrors might start to grow on you too. lol The mirror bras on red might take a while though.

Great pictures! Thanks for posting!

The back up on the freeway for 5+ hrs looks terrible. I guess you just shut her down and sit back and relax.

Great pictures! The three on the end where ken (porken) are the ones I was able to bring down. I managed to take only 2 blurry pictures of James Morrisons' '92 gts on the way to 928int. on Saturday morning.

Was different getting 3 cars there and our trip didn't start off the best. My day started about 4:30 (usual time actually) getting dogs and cats fed. We were going to leave about 10 a.m. and about 9 one of my friends called saying he was about 10 miles away and his truck had died showing very low battery voltage. Alternator had been rebuilt a week before. No problem, my brother was there and I had a good, hot spare battery. We also took a trailer (just in case) Got there, replaced battery and while hooking it up the truck goes 'beeeep'. I have no idea why that happened, but looking to Bill the owner he did. The truck had armed itself. Well shoot just disarm it I say and Bill says he cannot as he left the remote at his house. So now it is up to 3 oldish guys pushing a chebby truck onto a car hauler. Which we did, Eventually with dairy cows and passerby's looking one and laughing (I really think the cows were)

Finally were off at about 10:30 I am a passenger in the '81 to let one of my friends drive a 928 and we trade at lyons. We start on the final bit (really we are about 1/2 way) and to get on 219 there are a couple entrances that can be scarry to some if not known. Anyway we make the first and a bit further down the road the 210 goes under a couple of other freeways. To show Javier how the lights 'pop' up I turn them on and the car just dies. No stumble, just dead. My first thought is ohhhh crap, this is one place you don't want to be stuck under an overpass, 2 lanes of traffic, and a meadian that is narrowing! I begin to pull over and look in the rear mirror and see BOTH other cars pulling over also. NOOO!!! save youselves!, don't pull over! This is really not the place for 3 928's. As I am pulling over I can only think the problem has something to do with the lights so I turn them off, put car in neutral, try to restart, and vrooooom!, she fires right up!, pull back onto freeway and away we go again.

No other problems with the car and as we neared the hotel ther was a flashing sign of the terrible accident that had happened on the 60. We were on the 60.... and as I was thinking this remembered we needed to get off on Grand (which I was just passing) crap again, well we will just take the next turnoff as I can see the hotel. We get off and now I know where we are and am possitive we need to go past the first street and turn left onto frontage road. We all get into far lane, come to the stop light and crap, crap crap.... need to turn left here. No problem still. We will go to next turn and go through residential area and get on frontage road. Finally! All 3 cars are turning onto frontage and hotel is maybe 1/4 mile away. No more problems from here! (or so I thought) Cruising up to gateway drive (about 35mph) with both my friends behind me I make the turn up the drive, pull into lot, park, get out, and I'll be damned I am the only one there! Somehow my friends did not see me turn (they were literally about 6-7 cars behind me).

Now Javier and I are wondering what the heck could have happened, and eventually we see a red and grey carr coming back, blinkers on, they are going to make it!! A few seconds later in turns a guards red 928 and who is in it???? Gary and Sherry from vegas! , not my cars! They told me they were waving to the red car (they know it from other tripes to sharktoberfest) and were puzzeled why the did not turn into hotel. Well a few minutes later here they come back down the hill. I see the red one with blinker on and in it turns and parksWhere is the grey one? It missed the turn in again! After another couple minutes here he comes. Truly a comical situation.

Well, as it turns out the parking was on the other side of the hotel this year so we loaded up and pulled to correct part. I think during this time James was taking his pictures with the model (dangit) so we missed that (dangit, dangit) We had a very nice dinner that night and met a few more owners and then to bed. About 2:30 a.m. I hear Bill on the phone saying 'is he alright'? Oh crap, something bad has happened. As it turned out Javier was haveing an anxiety attack and Kevin had taken him to emergency! I get up and call Keven about him and remain up until they get back. Not sure what they gave Javier but he was VERRRRRY mellow and calm when he showed up. He slept the whole day and was fine for the drive home. He told Kevin (this part is obviouly a lie!!!) that he thinks what caused it was MY driving!!! Well... I guess it MAY have contributed as there were a few (only TWO) quick turns.

Saturday went by just way too fast, all of us were tired and I managed to lose my list of parts so spent a lot of time looking at the cars and trying to get what I needed (wanted). Will be placing an order for what I forgot in a few days. On Saturday another friend showed up from Porterville so all 4 cars from our town were there. The trip home was un-eventful and seemingly fast. When back we pulled an alternator off a non running truck and got Bill rolling again.

All in all a very fun and interesting trip. A general consenses on the '81 dieing problem is it may be the ignition switch is on its way out, as it does not return to 'run' position as it should all the time.

I really would like to thank Mark for having this event again (I am looking forward to next year already) and Joseph for the use of his hotel, an absolutely great place to stay! Hope you all find this diatribe as humurous as it was when it happened and look forward to seeing all next year.

That would have been better.... We got stuck in it on the 57 coming back from Doc Brown's... 2 hours to go 10 miles, but never stopped-- just slowed to a crawl. With a 5-speed

Great pic's, Mark! And Joe, great story. I love the "Nooo, save yourselves!" but it is hard to leave our fallen brothers behind... unless they've been captured by the state patrol, that is...

There was a large multi-truck fatality bout noon that day...was entirely unpretty.

And I thank you for contributing to the cause. I hope this torch can continue. The motivation behind it is very noble but it needs help from time to time
