Default Key hole surround repair

Hi folks, wonder if there is any helpful options around for sorting out the surrounds on my door key holes.

There are a bit patchy and kind of let the car down so looking to repair them.

What's the best option, simply mask off and paint them or can they be removed and refurbed?

Going to paint the rear spoiler so will have the paint there ready to go.

Any advice welcome.

Cheers,
Olie

I have masked mine and repainted. They pull out from the door so it is easy to get tape behind them. Also easy to mask off the centre where the key goes in.

You can use this.
Didn't try it but made some myself (with cumputer cut lettering equipment).
Work very well.

Easy peazy. You just need these three items and this thread.

I don't know about that. You'll have to do a trial fitting. I added a link to a How To thread for you to read up on the removal of the locks. They are really easy to remove and refurb. You can have both locks out in about 5 - 10 minutes.

I masked and sprayed mine, have held up pretty well. The outside edge of the lock sticks up a little bit above the door panel, so easy to tuck the masking tape up under it to keep everything neat.

Masked mine using plastic packing tape and a very sharp razor blade. Covered the rest of the car with plastic sheet. Used some solvent for prep, shot them with satin black spray can. Looks great years later.

Painting them is only a temporary solution - they will get scratched again in short order, no matter what type of paint you use.

I second the recommendation for Nicole's kit.

It also has an insert for the keyhole.

I installed them on my car over 5 years ago and they still look like new.

I loosened the surrounds and taped around them to protect the paint. Used some steel wool to take off the rest of the chipped paint and then polished them. They look pretty good for now.

I tried Nicole's kit but couldn't get them to align quite right and I wasn't happy. I'll try again sometime when I'm more patient.

My passenger side lock is always working its way partway out of the door, I'm shoving it back in all the time. What is that about and how do I get it to stay put?

Above the lock on your door jambs is a rubber cover. Under that, is 5mm allen bolt that needs tightened.
