Yes a 5speed style setup could be used to have a sliding coupler at the front. But the costs to develop this setup with new parts/drivshafts would be a lot more than the cost of a Super Clamp.

Its not the wear.
You are aware that the driveshaft on the 928 is engine speed.
You cant turn these things at 6500rpm...balance issues become the problem.
And as noted, the movement is barely noticeable..it takes a YEAR of abuse to get 2-3mm of total movement. Its another on the trucks, to have inches of movement.

Seems to me that they wouldn't be any harder to balance than a regular shaft. The only movement is fore/aft.

The problem was with the vibration of the new sliding coupler since the auto drive shaft is not pinned to the end of the crank shaft like the 5 speed set up.
We looked at making it that way with new drive shafts, but the cost of all the pieces would have been too much for most to buy.
