85 928 rear hatch water leak
I have a water leak on the passenger side of my rear hatch.
It is coming in near the rear speaker, but landing on the carpet area.
My rubber hatch seal does not look particularly dry.
My hatch maybe slightly out of alignment.
Has anyone ever replaced the water deflectors located in the channels?
They seem a bit stiff.
Part # 928 512 261 02 & 928 512 262 02
Anyone know the cost?

First I would realign the rear hatch cover and check the contact surface by applying chalk to the landing area or the hatch and see the contact surface via transfer of the chalk to the rubber seal.
You may need to adjust the hinges, the the back landing rubber bumpers and the female latch receptacle to achieve a good landing surface all the way around the hatch.
Also use the search function, it can be your best friend in solving problems.

Mine did that and it was the seal. Once removed you can see how flat 25 years can make one.

if you disconnect the rear hatch struts, and raise and prop up the rear hatch in order to access the upper hinge area for hatch seal replacement, do you still need to remove the sun visors and rear headliner area, behind the sunroof acess cover?

Before replacing the seal you may want to disconnect the hatch and try cleaning the channel well, particularly the top near the roof. Also inspect, clean and silicone the strip. Dirt and debris can cause water to trap near the top of the channel and make a way into the car.

You can just pull the seal off, wipe off any dirt around where it goes and then just thread it back on. It isn't a solid piece like the door seals, it's cut. Start off at the hatch receiver and work your way around.

When you remove the hatch you might consider this info,
remove the hatch sun visors and the trim panel behind them then remove the hatch seal,
scrub the seal with some cleaner and a scrub brush let it sit in the sun for a few hours to dry and reform.
Get some Hondabond and an injection tube like you get with the silicone tube sealant.
Inject the HB into the seal groove then quickly install the seal.
Note how it fits over the hatch wire harness.
This should cure the leak.
BUT WYAI also check the hatch anchors, see if they are loose and clean out the hatch seal groove so its free of all dirt

I had previously used the DC 111 in the seal groove, but the Hondabond4 works better in the groove and the DC 111 works better on the outside of the seal to keep it flexible.
I used the DC 111 on a few installs ( injected a bead inside the seal groove) and then smeared it on the outside of the seal ,
this will keep it flexible and water resistant,
I found that the hondabond will be a better sealing medium between the seal and the body rib .
I still suggest to use the DC111 on the outside of the seal though i may not have mentioned it.
