Fuel lines and fire !!
Spent some time at Greg Brown's shop getting new chassis to engine fuel lines made. Greg has had all the oddball fittings made to fit the early cars like the old very brown 1980. Photos show the old lines in the car, old line out of the car where they REALLY look bad and the new custom replacements. At the same time replaced the coolant tank and re did some vacuum lines bypassed the heater core.
The sad burn photo is a 1991 GT bit over 100,000 miles and now TOAST !!
So if you wish to avoid such a thing replace those line before. Mine lasted 32 Years but the GT only made it 21 years.
I was only preserving my $2,000 investment and only carry liability insurance .....having trouble compressing the first photos will get them up later...

I replaced all of my injector hoses and anything else rubber under the hood that I could see regarding the fuel line but the ones you show weren't done. Aside from the injector hoses and lines leading to the injector rails, what else needs to be replaced? Are these lines from the tank? Or the CIS? I have an '82 so hoses for the CIS sytem would not apply.
Now I'm nervous that I have missed a 30 year old hose somewhere!

Yes these are beside the engine on the early cars feed and return lines. There are variations on the different years. Some hose were rubber, some plastic with different style fittings depending on how the were attached for the factory hoses. Note how the "LOOKED" better on the top side in the car really bad when removed !!

Mine is an '82 - the lines he shows don't look like they are from under the hood on my car but I thought they might be from around the tank/fuel pump/filter area (or for the CIS).

Ran out last night to the garage to check (We are getting our first snow storm (minor one at least) of the season) but glad I went and looked! My '82 has the exact same lines that Jim showed in his last photo. Look good on the outside but I don't trust 30 year old rubber. Now on my list to replace before spring.
Thanks for the pics Jim! And I thought I had done my due diligence.

My guess would be the line between the FPR and the rear pressure damper let go and fuel drained down the back of the block and clutch housing onto the exhaust.
