Default Manhole rims

Why did Porsche use these rims for so many years on our 928?
Design department?
They are awesome?
They don't like the changes just like the body?

They are awesome...and it's so fun to try to find tires of that stock size.

Hindsight is wonderful isnt it?

At least mine are body coloured (white), from the factory, not boring alloy.

That is because you have an S and not S4 rims. The 225/50-16 tire is EASY to find, but there is only ONE COMPANY making the S4 rear tires size of 245/45-16!

Meh... personally i don't like the manhole covers design wise. I like the D90's much better, the manhole covers to me cover up way too much of the wheelwell as if there's something to hide. Even though the D90's are pretty much just manhole covers with a larger width, and a triangle of material cut out from the existing manhole cover slots.

The Flat Disc wheels ("manhole covers") are forged - as opposed to cast - wheels. As Merlin stated, forged wheels are FAR stronger than cast wheels. List price was ~$1,300.00 EACH!

There has been a pent up demand for 245/45 R16 tires - since they are the stock size for the 911 Turbo (as well as the S4). Bridgestone has recently introduced the RE-11 in the 245/45 R16 size. Good news for anyone with stock size S4 wheels. RE-11's are some of the best, stickiest tires available today!

I love them! Especially chromed!

And the rear tires for the S4 disc wheels are easier to find now!!

Well, by the time I found the link to the tires, everyone gave the answer already!

Sorry, chrome kills the deal.

As far as I know these wheels were never chromed by the factory (Fuchs). Chrome over alloy never works. Chromed Flat Disc wheels "always" peel and eventually leak air - not to mention the fact that the "chroming" process weakens the wheel.

Do you need chrome center caps for your chrome manholes???? I'll trade you a set of decent (but not great) chrome ones for your silver ones!!! The wheels that came on my '95 are the regular CUP II wheels (well, not actually...they are the 993 size...idiots!) and are just painted silver but have the stupid chrome centers...

Let me know!

Yes, i have the RE-11s. when I bought my shark it had old, mismatched tires (three Dunlop SPs and another Dunlop random). They were all in nice shape but I just couldn't trust 10 year old tires.
