Well, decided to update the fuel pumps and install a couple high flow 300lph pumps. My existing pumps have a small tailpiece on the inlet sides and the hoses slide on and clamp. The new ones do not, so I ordered some barb fittings. Well, ordered the wrong size...crap. Had to order new ones today.
not to be deterred, I decided to remove the drivers rear caliper, the rotor, and try to install the axle that has been off for about 5 years +\-.
i was able to get it in place and bolted to the wheel hub before my back had had enough...hopefully I can get the transaxle side connected and my fuel pumps replaced in the next few days!
Replacement pump (gets 2 of them) (1) of the seized pumps... CV axle, wheel side CV axle, transaxle side
Got the drivers axle all bolted in. Only took about an hour, (1) 8 word expletive outburst, and 1/2 of a Mich Ultra. Reinstalled the wheel and tire, which has been off for about 5 years.
Got the new pumps in. The gas was old and varnishing. Kinda weird, as I didn’t think it had been that long since she ran last...about a year. I estimated there was about 2 gallons or less in the tank. Added 5 gallons and a can of gumout. Leak checked, all clear. Tried to start. She turns over, that’s about it. Pushed down the flapper plate, and noticed there was no resistance. Believe my FD is gummed up, and the piston is sticking. Had to call it a night, but I will unplug the fuel pump relay and hook up my “test toggle” switch and let the pumps run a bit to move some goop around and try to break it all up. Car has not been on the road at all since I got it running, and everything fuel system wise is still new (well, 6-year sitting on lift bars new).
once I get her to run, I can work on getting the dash off, and trying to refurb that. I may even drop her off the lift bars, throw the steering wheel back on, and back her out of the building into the sun....maybe.
Dash pic New tank pump Fender pump. Yes I know I have the wrong clamp. Need to get some larger FI clamps.
Ron, Are you using that pump just to get it moving? I have not had good luck with that particular brand. They are inexpensive, yes, but they also seem not to last well.
Just an update, not much of one, the pumps did not work out too well. Couldn’t get fuel to the injectors...left it alone a few weeks, and now both pumps are seized. Leaving it alone for now. Focusing on getting the 79 reassembled.
probably be a few more months before I can get back on 30.
Thanks guys. I actually was trying to buy another rescue, on FB marketplace, but the seller will not respond….
Because of my ADD (or whatever disease I have)…I can’t focus on any (1) thing for very long…been losing sleep over this gal just sitting, soooo she has started to see a little more love…
