another poor soul
Found this OB today...went through a "seedy" part of town, I have never been in before, and spied a shark in the back of an auto shop..I turned around and went in...it was an Indian looking / speaking guy, who said he was from new york, but he was south American...whatever....he had a few old jags, mostly XJ6, some BMrs, and some MB's....and this poor old 79...paint, no good, interior, no good, 5-speed, 188k miles....tires good..lol...he said the fuel pump went bad, power windows don't work, and CIS distributor was spewing fuel all over...he said he drove it, and it ran, but used a lot of fuel, then started leaking...
Looked like a Jack-leg mechanic to me...said he hated Porsche, and was a Jag man...said he had $4200 in it...bought it as a theft recovery. He said he would take $2500, I said more like $500...he said make a reasonable offer...I took pictures and left...

If you can get the price right that may help fund #30. I would be a buyer for the center console door cards and maybe even the seats. The seat bottoms look like they might have potential.
You would be shocked at the how much the little bits help out on the driver.

That's a damn shame.
Ironically, the people who are holding on to these cars but not taking care of them are probably driving DOWN the value of a P-car they got cheap and are hoping will one day be 'Worth something'.

Where did this guys $4200 dollars go? Into his crack pipe??
That car looks neglected and not touched for quite some time. There is no way he has that kind of money into that car. These guys make up numbers to try and justify what they are asking, at $2500 he will probably make a $2000 profit lol!

he said he paid $2500, and then bought wires, plugs, brakes, etc,etc....and had $4200 in it....then said he sent it to another shop (since he is a Jag guy), because it was not running...they went out of business, and when he went to pick it up, it was spewing fuel from the CIS distributor....he said they probably removed his and put it on another car...lol....I would buy it for $500, if I had the excess funds....but with the house and all...not happening anytime soon....I'll try again in a few months, if I can save up some cash...
I dont believe any of his BS...just passing on what he said...

Sad.
I mean how do these cars get to this point...always amazes me.
I sometimes wish they could talk and tell us their life story!
That would be a TOUGH save!

Yeah, the guy is so full of **** his eyes are brown. CIS is CIS. It's the same deal on VW, Merc, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, or anything from 77 through about 89.
I started the 968 project with rough paint, fair interior, parts missing on the engine front, and many, many electrical gremlins. So far, not including tires I've got about $1500 in parts in a $2000 car and it's running and looking pretty darn good. After paint, I'll have $6500 all in, and it'll look close to new with everything working including AC.

I agree...I think it was probably a repo / theft recovery, he tried to fix it, and failed.....
We'll see how desperate he gets...if he still has it when I get some cash....
Mine is in a little worse shape, but at least it is complete...and I have it safe and sound in the garage....

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
Just let it be.
