What is it with people pushing Mobil products and agro, on internet forums ?( poor old Audi Junkie is full of agro) , and just as interesting is there are two at least on Rennlist at the moment that do not use their own names or where they are from , they hide behind a Pseudonym , and both use terms & phrases from a engine oil only website like tribology and such , what are they getting bored there on there little website with no one taking any notice of them ? .
I do not think Mobil would be very pleased at all with this evolving situation , it is not advertising there products the way they would want

The way I see it there are 3 choices for the Porsche boxer engines...
This is ridiculous, I bet you don't even own a 928?
I'm proud to say that I don't have a boxer engine in my 928, and I don't think anyone else has?
All that audi must have caught up with you, have you thought about rehab?

When you're unable to contemplate the subject, attack the poster.
Sorry if my cut-n-paste got you confused, I was working on more than one thread at once.
I'm still waiting for a copy of the single piece of data you rely upon, the "owner's manual" (from 1982 or whatever).
Here, let me help you with that...![](https://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRR6h63k0vD-nR4Lx-LaxWqWpyX9szlb4FN00HSGdH7hdcEmh9GxlLbt-XVeA)

I just noticed my Mobil 1 15w-50 has a silver cap, everyone keeps talking about a Red cap.
Is there a difference??
On the shelf @ crappy tire (Canadian tire) I only see silver cap.

The four I picked up a few weeks ago at Wal-Mart are silver caps too.

ok then. now that we have all had a good vent... in my first oil change of my '88 S4 i am going to use: Mobil 1 15W-50 full synthetic oil. for some very limited nice day winter driving and then i plan to leave it in there next spring too and through to fall.
everybody ok with that?
in general any real reason to change it in spring if i plan on driving it a very small handful of times through the winter?

The calls for UOA's with lighter oils in a 928 are futile. I will not run an oil in my car with which I have personally had oil pressure warnings with in order to prove a point and possibly damage my engine. And posting a UOA with 15w-50 and then comparing it to a UOA from another engine (even the same type from the same model Porsche) means absolutely nothing.

Dan you took the words right out of my mouth , this is one of the most puzzling things I ever come across in the Porsche service / repair world in the last 35 or so years .
It wasn't until I came across the Low Viscosity oil spruikers on the internet( last 6 or so years) did I hear of such a stupid time wasting / costly exercise "UOA" , to me it was a sure sign of not knowing that the use of a ( this century thin oil) in a last century engine designed for a bit more viscous oils , could prove disastrous .
And not surprisingly every summer get get new customers turning up with a low viscosity oil in their last century Porsche engines, usually 5w-40 even worse with a 0w-40 with their oil pressure warning light glowing madly at idle .
Once consulted with the owners manual( usually the first time they looked at it after I insisted) & installing a 15w-50 or 20W-50 the problem goes away , oil pressure returned , just like it indicated in the owners manual , who would of guessed
