Old tried and true sales tactic. It's called "creating urgency". I've used it many times since it was first used on me.

A buddy went and looked at this car. It's a complete basket case.. (the seller)

The seller not only insisted on sales tax, but several different fees.

They have this car posted on almost every city in California. It's listed as a 5speed and with varying prices from 5999 to 7999... Plus they post several times a day.

When my buddy went to check it, it was on a lot display stand and the seller would only start it on the stand... No test drives... His words were "it's a complete piece of ****"

Sounds and smells very fishy to me.

Does Texas not charge sales tax on a used vehicle purchase?

Or are you just trying to avoid giving Cali any funds, and give them to Tx instead?

BTW, I know a guy in Cali who has an S4 in this color. Not sure if he's on Rlist. I could call him if you want and see if he wants to sell, he's driving a newer Vette now as well.

Well, a month has gone by, and this car is still sitting. I'm going to reach out again and see if he wants to move it.

Doc,
You got Cassisrot fever bad!!!!

When I picked up my '88 in Cali, I didn't pay them squat except for the $15 one way permit that Dan posted about. Blue sticker thingie that you stick to the passenger side windshield. I drove all the way back to Texas with that blue sticker in the windshield...no tags...no inspection.
Drove all the way into Sweetwater and got pulled over for going slightly fast and the Trooper looked all around the car and asked in all seriousness, " Did you know you don't have any tags on this car?" I had to laugh, but then I thought "what if this tag thing was only good for Cali?" Apparently it was good all the way home, because that trooper never even looked any farther but just asked whose car it was and satisfied with the answer I gave, sent me homeward.
