I think most of the hardware would be easy to adapt, but anything beyond minor boost and I don't think the S3 brains are up to the task lacking knock detection and compensation.

Lack of knock detection means any setup, with any amount of boost, has to be tuned far more carefully compared to an S4/GT. There is no such thing as "safe boost" if it's detonating.

An experienced tuner doesn't need knock sensors to properly tune any car under any amount of boost. The sensors will be there down the road if something unexpected happens to save the motor.

Our local guy Todd making 650rwhp+ and 800+hp with his supercharged and twin turbo 928's doesn't have any knock sensors. But he's also very methodical with his tuning and has one of the best tuners I've ever worked with by his side every step of the way.

The S3 brains do pose a challenge when tuning because the Shark Tuner V2 isn't compatible with them. Meaning you have to tune ignition and fuel separately which adds complexity and time to the tuning process.
Which is why after adapting the S3 EuroS brains to my 81 I'm taking it back off and going stand alone.

The new ST1 will tune S3 brains, price is just $1250 for a complete kit.... also tunes 85/86 Euro 16v.

Both brains at the same time, how about PEMS?
