Re. past conflicts between Rennlist and the 928OC - Ed Ruiz created extensive collateral damage acting like a jackass in his interactions with John D. many years ago. At one point, Rennlist actually hosted the 928OC website as a show of support and comraderie. Ed really screwed the pooch on that one. I won't go into the dirty details.
Frankly, Stan sounds quite a bit like Ed in many of his comments here.
Scary.

Those were the days weren't they? I still miss them!
Just one small clarification for "Historical reference", yes John graciously offered many times to host the 928OC website and even host/code e-mail lists(that is how John rolls). But to my recollection we never took him up on it, I (we) were very always insistent that the 928OC stand on it's own merit independently.. or fail if not. John and I had this conversation quite often. FWIW, I personally paid and provided for the website hosting until Excel took it over later.
It was important for us that the 928OC not have any outside influence or control by any other entity so it remained "pure" and unbiased in all aspects. We never wanted to be like some Car magazines where articles or other influence could be gained by advertising, sponsorship, etc.. This is why we never allowed outside advertising or sponsorship on the website...and later partly why I resigned as my company took off as we got others to step up and help run the Club.
On all the other points you made I remember it the same way. Poor Ed, honestly if you ever got to know him he was a great guy. He and his wife were some of the nicest people to know, Jeannie and I were lucky to get to visit with them in their home and you couldn't ask to be around better people...BUT,there is no doubt he did not always have a "handle" on "cordial digital communication"....even though his intentions were typically good. OTOH, you never had to wonder if he was being straight with you or not, you always knew his straight forward opinion on anything...no matter if that pi$$ed anyone off or not. Of course, YMMV. :-)
I still miss him and it would make my day if he showed up at a Frenzy or somewhere...Ed, if you are out there call me! BUT in all due and deserved respect, he is the "Father" of the Frenzy, one of the 928OC Founders, and tried his best to run the 928OC when no one else would help.. and has done a LOT for the 928 Community. For that he should get our thanks, THANKS ED!!
Reminds me of a funny Ed story...Never, EVER give him a microphone.....once he started talking with a mic at the Frenzy's, we could never get him to stop. It became a running joke with most of us back then and became quite comical.
Flash forward to years after he retired from the Frenzy he made a surprise visit to one of the Frenzy Events(can't remember which one)...one of the "newbie" Frenzy Organizers made the mistake of giving him the mic to say something, you could hear all of us old timers loudly laugh at this...pretty sure one us finally had to get up and take it away..and if I recall he somehow got it back again...we had to take it away again...TOO FUNNY!!
He really was a fun guy, I swear Randy, had you ever met him in person it would have all been different.
Andrew sorry again for the OT, felt it was important.
Oh, and yes Tony..I know which button causes this to happen...LOL!
Cheers,
Dave

I just don't get any of this at all. Good lord...its an unpaid position in a CAR club. Isn't life stressful enough without creating drama. Lose your business...the way you have always made a comfortable living, lose your son to cancer right in front of you....then tell me any of this makes a ****.
9 pages in 3 days. Ask yourselves "what good can come out of any of this"?
I have always thought this was a close knit group...but this kind of stuff divides...it does not help anyone.
rant over....carry on......or not.

I am new to the 928 ownership arena, and both frowned and smiled at some of these posts....
First, let's say I am obsessed with the 928, I bought a crapper, because it was all I could swing right now, but I got one...finally, after years of "wanting"
As I was hunting info. and knowledge, the first site I found was Sharksins pages....Great info. I thought....Then I found Pelican...awesome!
Then through Shark's, found Rennlist...even better....
After I began to settle in, and make a few friends, I have considered joining the OC...went to the website, and was quite disappointed...for example, there is a link for the OCIC webpage...click it, and it's dead....go to events, click on SITM, and it goes to 2009..weird, as I attended 2012....there are quite a few old and broken links.
My point is the website did not entice me to join, and quite frankly, I have only been on it 3 times since I bought my car...twice today....I was looking for past and current info., events, etc, and the content is just not there...more current info. is here, and pelican. So that said, there is only one example of where some improvement would help increase the membership value.
Of course, that said, I will be joining soon.....perhaps I can even find a way to help out....I already have proven I can park cars..(Right DR?)
AND.....I am fond of BOTH candidates...maybe they run as P/VP, then swap later??? I dunno...
Oh well, just wanted to be part of the discussion....

In that respect does anything here on Rennlist, any Discussion Forum, or even any Car really matter?
Of course not...except that it may give some (or many) a place away from, or a break from, the normal stresses of everyday life we all go through to one degree or another. I am sure there are even a few that it has given them a place to make true friends that can also help them navigate all the dark and/or desperate times that life can sometimes bring...I know for sure I have.
OTOH, IF this Forum is adding negativity on top of your everyday stresses in life...maybe you should walk away for a little bit...trust me, that works too! :-)
I am sorry for your loss, since I am not a father I couldn't even begin to imagine that. Any loss of a loved one is tragic, I lost my Mother 8 weeks ago, but even with that I still couldn't begin to understand the depths of your loss.
All my best,
Dave

I just think things are being said in this thread that most will regret later. Plus...its so FAR off the reason for the thread.
A.O. is running for president...and his reasons why you should vote for him. NOT all this other bitter stuff. I thought at first it was a screen plan for an upcoming soap opera or , God forbid, another reality show.

ATTN: James and Andrew - BEWARE!
The position you are running for apparently will cause men of character, and good will toward their fellow man, to become pissed off at the world!!!

I have made sure to read every single post in this thread prior to offering any of my thoughts. Looks like there are mixed feelings on everything from the content of this thread, to each candidate individually, the OC, and Stan Shaw.
I feel that this type of discussion can be nothing but positive. The tone, for the most part, has been surprisingly mature. For that reason alone I have gained a little respect for AO. Prior to this thread, I knew very little about him and I pleased to see that he has passed on many obvious opportunities to take his own thread down a negative, deconstructive path. It really is nice insurance as a club member to know that AO is at least a good guy.
Stan Shaw is too, though. I feel a lot of folks are mistaking his posts in this thread as condescending or that he is trying to wage an unfair election for President. I only read passion in his posts, and he should be passionate. After all, he has done so much and is deservedly proud of his accomplishments. He and James have made impressive strides in the past 2 years.
The education that can be gained from reading these posts are invaluable to members who want more direction of how to vote. It's been great education for me. I'd like to learn more about AO, but this time around I will be supporting James Morrison as he has contributed so much already to the OC. His sense of pride for the 928OC is as close a match to Stan Shaw's as I've been shown YET.

I find it curious that you fellows in this club would air your dirty laundry to the larger 928 community here on Renny.
I am sure you are all passionate for one reason or another about your club, however I have to say that for this particular outsider, all the drama and sniping (irrespective of how well it is veiled in sucre) evident in this thread completely turns me off. It is all I need to see to be absolutely certain I would not want to invest any energy to "belong".
RV's post reminded me of the "Ruiz" reason I first felt this way many years ago, and it does appear, from my lousy vantage point, that nothing has changed.
I do remember that past mods "did not encourage" 928OC business discussion here......... I do not feel the same way, and thought it interesting to let this thread run its course.
This has not been pretty and I suspect it is counter productive to increasing the size of your tea party..........
However, that is simply my opinion.

I am posting the following questions in both candidates threads, hopefully this will give us some additional insight into how each candidate will steer the 928OC "fiscally" going forward.
These questions are generally based on the Full Yearly Financial Statements provided at least through 2009 and partial year through 6/30/2010 (there seems to be no yearly info I can find for 2010, 2011, or 2012 YTD). For reference these statements are linked in the 928OC Member section of the 928OC Forum in a thread titled "928 OC Financials" , post date 08/16/2010
Do you agree with how Member funds have been and are being spent?
Do you feel it is in the best interest of the Members and the continuing support of 928 Ownership?
If you do not agree ,what specifically would you try to change and why?
On the subject of Election Voting. According to the 928OC Bylaws in section 7.3 it states "The Election Date shall be between July 1st and September 1st , inclusive."
Have you been told yet when the Voting is taking place?
If there is going to be some sort of delay in the Voting have you been told what is causing this?
Once again best of luck to both Candidates and thanks in advance for taking the time to answer these questions!!
Sincerely,

OH!! That is a great idea.
DR, will you be the moderator of a chat debate between candidates?
How cool would it be to use the chat feature here or somewhere else where the candidates can debate each other on topics that some impartial third party comes up with? That would be COOL!!!

Hope you are well!!! Also hope the neighbors have gotten used to the additional "noise" coming from your place. :-)
I agree in spirit with your comments, and yes as a general rule normal everyday 928OC business should not be discussed here on Rennlist. However, the once every 2 years (or less frequent) 928OC Officer elections do affect a LOT of 928 Owners directly and therefore a good part of the 928 Community. For there to be a couple of threads concerning this subject every other year or so should not be considered "out of line" in that context.
Concerning the "Dirty Landry", as is typical here, or in any Discussion Forum, you know all to well it only takes one person to begin that downward spiral..and also as you have stated many times (and again today) it is usually best to let it take it's course (as long as it doesn't get too out of hand), and work itself out on it's own.
In this current climate where Sponsors/Vendors (or their "agents") are continuously hounding other Sponsors/Vendors in their own Product Announcement threads (as you know this used to be a major no, no and was never tolerated by Admin/Mods, and deemed "classless" by most, including the Vendors of that time), what has happened in this thread is child's play,.. and as mentioned above is typically only a once every 2 years (at best) situation vs what appears to be a "Daily routine" and the norm around here these days. It is unfortunately not the same ole "Friendly Rennlist 928 Community" we both remember and grew to care for so fondly.
But, as you wisely said and is 100% absolutely true, this is simply my opinion also, for what that is worth. Ha, Ha!! :-)
All my best,
Dave
