85 - 86.5 are engines are exactly the same and rated at 288 hp and all have the pipe organ intake. The 86.5 only gets the S4 style exhaust, not the intake, heads and cams of the S4. That exhaust may flow slightly better then the 85-86 exhaust but the HP difference would be negligible.

Ok, reading that thread on pelican made it sound like 86.5 engines were slightly different compared to the 85 86 engine. I guess they were comparing it to the S4 engine not the 85 and 86.....

Thanks

Really, I've not found or seen any diff in Heads or cams, just got done re- doing my 86.5 eng and it was exactly the same as my '85 (the blue one)

edit:
Apologies, I miss read your statement "not the intake heads and cams", Also please note the exhaust is slightly diff at the muffler, as the 86.5 exits behind the wheel like all OB's and not straight back like an S4 also

Thanks!

I read it as the intake, heads and cams are the same for 85, 86, and 86.5. Only the exhaust, brakes and suspension are different (and the jack points) for 86.5 vs. 85 & 86.

Simplest terms:

86.5 has the S4 brakes and suspension and true dual exhaust. Aside from that, everything else is virtually same as 85-86 years.

You can easily RMB an 86.5 because of the true dual exhaust. You can't do that with an 86.

If you want to RMB and have better brakes, get an '86.5. Other than that, all others are a go.

The first 1000 of the 1986 model 928s for the USA market (not Euro) Porsche used up the excess 1985 model suspension and brake parts. They often dumped parts that way, 912E being the prime example, 924S another. Original 912 for using 356 motors.
Nothing wrong with 85 S brakes just not as fade resistant for repeated high speed stops.

Anyone ever seen an 86 (or 86.5) Euro 16V?
