928GTS desirability?

Phil, is off by a few. 406 were imported to the US is all. The US cars were built from MY '93 to '95. For ROW (EURO) cars the GTS was built from MY '92 to '95.
You can go to www.928registry.com to read more about them.
77 were brought to the US for the '95 MY. About 35%-40% were 5spd cars...
Quite rare. Phil's total GTS run sounds about right...maybe a touch low as there were something like 933 ROW '92's built. I'm sure Erkka will be all over this with the actual numbers shortly, I think he has them memorized!

2904 GTS's worldwide from 92-95.
ROW:
1992: 955
1993: 621
1994: 523
1995: 399
US:
1993: 209
1994: 120
1995: 77
Endless debate about the relative desirability of GTS's vs. other 928's. I like 'em all.

Thanks! I realize "desirability" is subjective...I have a possible line on one for what seems like a good price here in Hong Kong. Prices in the US don't really have relevance but just for my curiousity, how much would an excellent condition, less than 40k miles car go for in the US?
TIA!
TIA!

Well, there were only 15 GTS's originally sold in the Hong Kong market, so I'd say they're pretty uncommon. 'Excellent condition' is a meaningless term when uttered by a dealer or clueless owner, and the answer depends on color, transmission, records, etc. Post a VIN and we can tell you what options it has/had.

Huh. Put that there a few weeks ago after a request for option codes, then a request for what they meant. Will edit sig with http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options/options.asp

Interesting story about cars in Hong Kong. I had an engine that was rebuilt there, sent over to me to find out why it "shook" so badly.
It was from an automatic GTS and had spun the center main bearing from flex plate pre-load....the block was junk.
I had several conversations with the owner and he said that every automatic GTS, in Hong Kong suffered the same problem. Porsche had informed them that it was a "local" problem only....no one outside of Hong Kong had suffered these problems.
Might be worth checking the engine numbers, if it is an automatic GTS....

Wow that response from Porsche sounds similar to one I was told by a Chrysler Regional Rep 25 yrs ago. I was having bad problems with the carbs on one of their, almost new, pre-fuel injected cars. He said it was a very common situation, but not something they would provide me any recourse for. He said they had determined it was due to "the Gas in the South" & going forward from my model yr. they had switch to fuel injection! Needless to say, I got rid of the car & haven't been back to Chrysler since!

well, I had a S4 and now a GTS. I can only say I love them both but the GTS wins in comfort and style.
@Greg: Yes, the flexplate clamp is a known design flaw, and a superior clamp is called for. That is why I replaced mine with one that actually clamps and copes with the force of the 928 engine
