@Greg: Yes, the flexplate clamp is a known design flaw, and a superior clamp is called for. That is why I replaced mine with one that actually clamps and copes with the force of the 928 engine
Worth mentioning that a GTS for the Hong Kong market is not legal in L A unless federalized which is rather expensive to do. Over 25 years old and I believe there are some exemptions.
Thanks! I realize "desirability" is subjective...I have a possible line on one for what seems like a good price here in Hong Kong. Prices in the US don't really have relevance but just for my curiousity, how much would an excellent condition, less than 40k miles car go for in the US?
TIA!
Is it LHD or RHD?
Hong Kong got predominantly RHD cars back then, it being a British protectorate.
If its RHD, with that mileage, then its worth around 17k pounds, maybe 20k if its manual, on the UK market.
edit: All the Hong Kong delivered GTS's were RHD, and of those 15, only one was manual. In addition to the HK-delivered cars (country code C15), there were also a fair number of UK (C16) cars imported to Hong Kong, as some of them have ended up here in Australia.
Lived in Hong Kong for over six years, so if you purchase a Hong Kong car I would suggest that if it has been serviced outside of the Porsche Official Service Centre be extremely careful, as Hong Kong has/had many back street mechanics with no training what-so-ever and I have seen some of their work.
My 1990S4 Auto is an ex Hong Kong car, RHD, always garaged (cheapest car in the garage) and it had no service records what-so-ever when I purchased it over 12 years ago and this history was reflected in the excellent low price. When I purchased the car it only had 46,000 Kms on the odometer.
It has turned out to be an excellent mechanical operating vehicle, a real pleasure to drive and the only time it has been to a specialised 928 mechanic was when I had a PPI done on it. All other work has been done by myself.
So the conclusion is are you a DIYer and if so, are you comfortable purchasing this vehicle? If no documentation go in with a very low offer after you have a PPI.
