Default Engine Assembly

http://www.flickr.com/photos/51967142@N00/7604911432/
I was searching RL for some opinions on engine reassembly lubricants as used in the 928, but there's not much posted, so I was hoping to get the thoughts of those of you that have done this already. In additional to wanting to give the parts the best possible chance at startup, I'm worried about the long-term staying ability of some of these lubes since I can go weeks / months between having the free time to work on this project. I'd like to steer clear of moly based products since it will likely clog the oil filter. I have the following on hand:
  • Lubriplate 105
  • Red Line Assembly Lube
  • Napa Lube / Federal Mogul - Probably not the stuff I want to use
  • Motor Oil

I've also read decent things about the Torco assembly lubes: MPZ, MPZ HP (mfg lists as an option for cam lobes), MPZ Spray

Use by Segment...What do you suggest:
  • Wrist Pins / Upper Rod Bearings: ??? (Redline / Torco MPZ ???)
  • Rings: Engine Oil (no assembly lube here)
  • Drive Shaft Bearings / Lower Rod Bearings: ???
  • Cam Shaft Bearings: ????
  • Cam Lobes: ??? (Torco HP ???)

Thanks,
Dave

I used the permatex when I built the motor for my '79, I think. The project took a year or so and the lube worked OK as far as I know.

I used Torco assembly lube for the bearings and piston pin. For the cams and lifters I used their valve train assembly lube. For piston rings and cylinder walls used 10W40 NON synthetic engine oil.

I use Torco Assembly Lube on everything except the rings, which I also use oil.

What about the work shirt and the ATF? Or is that special sauce?

Thanks guys, I appreciate your sharing what you've used to assemble.

On the rings, how much oil do you use...do you dip the piston head in an oil can up to the wrist pin, or just squirt some on the rings and let it soak in...

Thanks
Dave
