Default Well I bought one Project Gt

New/Guy/New/Owner. I ended up buying a 89 gt project. Not sure what I was thinking, but its mine now.

Serious need of paint.
blower motor bad.
guessing the air compressors bad also.
super slop shifter.
no dash lights.

That's it for now!!!

I should have know better after owning a 80 Euro s years ago.

Let the fun begin.

Mark

If you're going to resurrect a 928....an 89GT is the most worthwhile project.

Best of luck to you.

Yeah. Shifter Resurrection will be first project.

Before that though get licensed, and baseline dyno so I can take it all apart.

Talk to Roger about his shift linkage setup. Replacing the front ball is a pain and not necessary with his setup. Blower motor might be a resistor pack instead. If so it will still work on defrost.

I'd skip the dyno. Too risky before sorting it.

The shift slop is likely the bushing near the rear transaxle. Easy cheap fix if you can get the allen head out.

You have to use torch fire or a strong heat gun to melt the locktite off before you can undo that allen bolt. Most will try to undo the bolt without melting the locktite off and end up damaging the bolt, which leads to having to cut the part out and buying a new one.

shifter slop can really RUIN a 928.....don't ask me how I know....

The good news is its just a series of bushings that are fairly easy fixes......the most typical problems are the bushings in the lever itself & the rear coupler bushings.....get the solid delrin version from Roger....that should improve things quite a bit......there also is some great short shifters out there..but I haven't tried any myself

Welcome Mark!

What color is the car? If its single-stage Guards Red, it can be amazingly resurrected with a cut and polish (I've seen it go from pinkish-white and sandpaper rough back to shiny red).

Dash lights is probably corrosion on the dimmer wheel - left side thumb wheel under the pod. Sometimes a spin back and forth to each end of travel a few times will break through the corrosion enough to get *some* light.

Oh, and you forgot the important part of your first post.. pictures

Thanks for the tips.

Blower motor fixed

Dash lights better not perfect but better

Guards red well pink. I may do that till it body shop time.

Can I post pics? I have not really looked into it.

Is there a link some where on the Rus shifter install. Its a gt is it worth going all the way and install the

shifter while I have everything apart, or just go back stock with all new parts?

Owner said it had a new water pump and tb but never said when, and didn't provide the paperwork that he said he would.

That's a rather short list. They are solid cars but need to be caught up on neglected maintenance before you have a great, reliable 928.

Remember that you should have the shorter GT shifter - You definitely want to hang onto that...
