Default Plastic inside the door card

I just replaced the window motor for the driver side window. Thanks Roger.
When I removed the door card the Po had a bunch of duct tape closing off the holes. Has anybody replaced the factory plastic?
What plastic sheet did you use?
What adhesive did you use to put the plastic sheet on the door?
Anybody used any other products?
Thanks

Some folks go to the dollar store and buy a cheap shower curtain for this application.

Bilal,

I will use the following from Cascade auto. It is both a water barrier and sound damper. http://www.cascadeaudio.com/car_noise_control/vb_2.htm

Cheers!

Carl,
Do you have any pictures of your install?
How did the door cards fit over this material? Any issue with this being a thicker material? Did you do the whole door like they show in the pictures or just the area behind the door card in place of the plastic?
Thanks

I have not installed it yet. Car is getting ready to ship to the painter in August, so the door insulation won't be installed until fall. The Cascade Audio website has a good "instruction PDF" that shows the install. You use a heat gun or hairdryer and the material stretches 70% if I remember correctly. It allows for it to adhere to all the crevices.

Here is a link to the install info: http://www.cascadeaudio.com/car_nois...tallation.html

The thickness should not matter as long as you cut enough around the holes where the plastic clips attach to the door. They also have a thinner version of that material.

Cheers!

If they are just small holes, you could use epoxy putty. Otherwise a filler piece and epoxy putty.

To finish off the inside, you can buy black felt powder from local hobby shop. The felt powder sticks to glue that you lay down on the surface before sprinkling on the felt.

Home Depot sells plastic rolls with different thickness. The only thing is that you will have much more than what you need, but the price is not bad. That is what I used o n my door once I repaired the wondow motor and found no plastic at all.

Bilal,
When I took my door panel off to reinforce it with the metal brackets cleaned up and replaced that plastic. I bought a roll of it at WM. I will find out the thickness. But, I know it's thicker than what was there. After I pulled off the old plastic I used it as a pattern for the new. I attached it by spraying some upholstery adhesive around the edge of the plastic and just stuck it in position.

Old plastic removed

New plastic attached.

Default Replaced the Plastic

I replaced the plastic on my passenger side door yesterday.
I bought this 4 mil plastic roll from Home Depot and installed it using the silicone adhesive.
Used the passenger side as a template and installed the driver side to look exactly as the passenger side, even had to undo some of the wiring to be on the interior side of the plastic.

Carl-

Got a source that sells the VB-2 material? Didn't see a way to buy direct from Cascade.

Hi Rob,

Here are some places that sells it:

http://bicostereo.com/index.php?act=...productId=4208

Amazon Amazon

http://www.dreamershotrods.com/casca...gineering.aspx

I don't have any personal experience with these places (other than Amazon) so I can't give you a shopping experience review

Hope you can let us know how it works out!

Cheers!

The factory barrier had a second flap that was heat welded in the area of the large opening that tucked inside that opening to avoid water pooling at the bottom of the barrier.
