Default Headlight pivot bar assembly question

Hi

Firstly i have and cant find anything...... can anybody tell me if the cast headlight base ( the part that is painted body colour and the yoke is screwed to) is meant to rotate on the shaft? if so how free is it meant to be?? or doesn't it matter?

Regards

Geoff

Geoff,
As I recall realigning one of my headlights, there should be no free movement on the torsion bar.

There can be a small amount of "play", but it is pinned to rotate with the bar. Perhaps the "spiral pin" is damaged or has fallen out. Item 5 in this picture.

My '80 has 2 split spring pins through the casting and the tube, per light assy.

(1) the swivel plate is not pinned to the driving shaft. The lever is held to the plate (1) by (9) the locking segment. These should move as one.

What exactly is the issue you're having ?

Hi

I ve stripped the whole assy down as part of a rebuild of the car. I've resprayed the parts and when i removed them origionally they were solid on the bar. I am now reassembling it all and wanted to know whether it was a tight or loose fit
I guessed that they would be loose as there is a catch mechanism on them but wanted to check

Regards

Oh, I misunderstood. The headlamp and painted base can be swung up and down independent of the shaft as they will pull easily out of the lock. The lever is fixed to the shaft.
