I think it was really not so much the torque as the hp.

Looks like it broke, friction welded itself back together and then broke, welded....

Reminds me when I had a modded 93 GT Mustang with AOD - I installed a BBM shift kit / trq cnvrt and it snapped the input shaft not once but TWICE - clean and in half.
