those parts get busted by torque. doesnt matter what gear you are in, it matters what is acting from the engine to the shaft, or the rear wheels back to the shaft. a bad downshift, or clutch drop can destroy all sorts of inline driveline parts. that just happened to be the weakest link, by design .
