Thomas,
I hope you are not saying that shops that install Volvo MM's are not reputable as I know many that do. This is because the customer asks for them to be fitted.
I have had a couple of customers say that the EIS is a tight fit with new Volvo MM's but they are fitted and running. One EIS customer in Australia beleives his may not fit but has not completed the install.

Probably over a 1000 = 500 sets over the last two years with ZERO performance issues. Only issue is with fitting due to the two hook restraints clashing. This is fixed very easily as already mentioned by Chris.

Happy Fathers day to all,

I am happy with the mounts that I purchased last Sharktoberfest and installed. I asked for the Volvo mounts to save some coin. That is what I received.

They made a big difference as my OEM were completely collasped. I was still not satisfied with vibes so when returning back to Seattle I replaced the Trans mounts. Still some vibes so I moved on to Constantine TT bearings and clamps. My car is acceptable now for smoothness.

However, as I started to help HB4 with his 3,000rpm vibes, we started with his MM's which he tells me were Volvo MM's also. This is where I started wondering how many styles of Volvo mounts there are. If mine were truly Volvo's and they have this metal band (strap) how come the HB4's Volvo's do not. The fit of HB4's are quite different also compared to mine. His do sit higher which caused some issues with hoses and A/C lines rubbing on fender wells. I also notice more vibes after this install and , well we started a whole new witch hunt which I still believe can be solved with OEM porsche mounts. I have no idea if we installed solid mounts, either one side or the other as I hear they look identical. After some research on Rennlist I called a few shops trying to figure why Porsche mounts could cost $600.00, whats missing in the aftermarket mounts that are $100.00.
My conclusion is Porsche knew they wanted to disguise these vibes. One is with the TT damper and the other with their MM's. The 5 speeds need not worry so I know these cars can run smooth as silk. My statement about reputable shops should be changed to experienced shops possibly as I have learned that they also will only install Porsche MM's. I am anxious to install original Porsche MM's to feel the intended smoothness that the 928 can offer, or find a nice 5 speed! Sorry to alarm.

Thomas,
Thanks for clearing that up you had me worried.

We only sell one Volvo MM and I know that Mark at 928 International sells the same.
They come with a restraining metal strap that we remove before we send to customers. The restraint is not needed on our cars as we have the hook system.

Porsche went from solid to hydraulic to help minimise vibration transfer from the engine to frame. I beleive that hydraulic is better than solid - how much better is hard to define.

When I found out the 928 owners had been using Volvo hydraulic MM's succesfully for a number of years we tried them with awesome results.

Best of both Worlds - Hydraulic and economical as as close the original as possible. Long term lets hope they do not leak and collapse like the Porsche MM's.

My apologizes Chris for hijacking. I wish you a wonderful Fathers day and you have received a very good sales tool if ever needed when it comes time to sell your car. A Dan H endorsement is worth big bucks in my eyes.
Keep up the great work!

Thomas,
The vibration you speak of, has your cams been timed?
Has your engine been tuned?
New/rebuilt/balanced injectors?
Ignition leads?

All these can cause vibrations.

No worries Thomas and the same to you, good to hear the experience of others it is how we learn and improve.

HB4 just needs to get some track time and then maybe the vibes will get better !

Nothing like destructive testing, eh?

Colin,
Maybe I'll bring it up and you can figure it out.

Track time is OK! Track abuse is another thread!

Bill,

You're welcome to come up, one drive and I should be able to identify where the problem lies.

Sounds like a good excuse for a drive; I'll PM you in the next couple weeks and we can arrange a time.
