Mike, from what I've researched the 2wd AX15 has the same output splines to match the 928 Differential. The shift mechanism could be easily modded to to adapt to the factory 928 shift rod. JAT

I sold the car before ever taking it to the track so I don't know.
Driving it up and down the street didn't really allow it to shine because of the road race gearing. It would be going fast before getting out of first gear.

I don't understand how that could be useful. There's no splined part to simply bolt up to with ease.
I know it's easy to imagine a simple drilled adapter plate or something involving common machining but in reality it's not that simple and takes a big effort.
An internal shift rod would be an improvement though, if I had to do this over I'd use one of the newer Jericos with internal shift linkage and make it protrude forward to be able to use a stock type shifter.
The honkin' external shifter jutting out of the tunnel is quite a spectacle though and has a solid feel.

At new home and missed: ´79 928 7.0 liter 32v racer 640 WHP.

I have a friend who once owned an Aston Martin DB5, same car as James Bond drove. Almost forty years later my friend regret selling the DB5, it was the mistake of his life. I am sure with time Mike Simard will feel the same about his now sold and missed 928 racer.

As long as the 928's rear pinion pre-load was able to be set with the adapter, it would work. The early C5's rear pinion pre-load are incorporated into the housing itself making on-the-fly gear changes fairly easy.
The AX15 has triple cone synchros and has the exact internals as the R154 trans (800 RWHP Supra comes to mind). Multiple AISIN gears parts on the cheap and is the precurser to all the new 6speed boxes in Solstice/Caddy/Hummers

Also I made the axles for an LQ9-powered jeep with a stock AX15. He still hasn't broken that trans.
